The successful candidate will be a part of a team that provides design support for large and small-scale substation engineering projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who wants to learn and take on new challenges.

In the role of Substation Electrical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Protection and control design.
  • Schematic and wiring designs
  • Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to junior team members on moderate to highly complex projects.
  • Perform QC reviews for work performed by junior and mid-level engineers and/or designers.
  • Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
  • May assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
  • Will also be responsible for quality control reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis.
  • Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.


Due to client contract requirements, US-born citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of substation design experience.
  • Experience using standard industry design software required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred.
  • Previous consulting firm experience desired.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
