The Structural Team Leader supervises a Structural Team consisting of Engineers and Designers and provides technical leadership direction. The incumbent coordinates the activities of the team to meet the production and quality goals set by management. The incumbent has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating technical assignments, ensuring standards and procedures are adhered to, and recommending process improvements. The Structural Team Leader plans approaches for team members on tasks involving non-standard engineering issues. The incumbent also collaborates with peers and other departments to help minimize problems with workflow or changes that would impact the team, and provides guidance to the team on rules and regulations on technical matters pertaining to structural engineering.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lead, develop and mentor Engineers and Designers for continuous improvement of engineering expertise, professional development and career path planning.

Perform analyses using hand calculations, tower analysis software and other accepted methods.

Implement and follow Quality Control procedures.

Exercise technical responsibility required within areas of technical competence for sealing engineering work performed by the Structural team.

Generate required engineering reports, analyze the information, and make recommendations.

Provide reporting on the performance of the team, in accordance with formats provided by management.

Drive to meet production goals for structural analysis as well as A&E drawings.

Provide leadership on projects and answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customers.

Design modifications for tower reinforcing, extensions and foundations; work with the designer staff in the development of modification drawings; check the accuracy of modification drawings and ensure quality standards are adhered to.

Complete specialized engineering assignments requiring complex calculations.

Assist in the selection of new design and analysis tools.

Keep abreast of new technical methods and developments in tower engineering.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage the performance of technical staff and project coordinators and provide technical direction and training to the members of the team.

Create strong collaborative team environment, and demonstrate personnel management skills with creativity, foresight and mature judgment.

Coach team members on technical and professional performance.

Counsel staff as deemed necessary in conjunction with Director, Engineering and Human Resources.

Detailed knowledge of structural analysis software and of tower structures and design methods.

Demonstrate strong understanding of project delivery and technical disciplines within the team.

Able to recognize limitations in process and seeks creative solutions.

Broad knowledge of CAD software.

Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast paced environment

Strong record of accomplishment in building and maintaining solid relationships with both internal and external customers and vendors.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field required.

Master's degree in civil or structural engineering, management or a related field preferred.

Professional Engineer ("PE") license required.

Minimum of three years of experience in the communication tower design and analysis.

Minimum of five years of structural engineering experience.

Working knowledge of TIA/EIA-222 code and other relevant specifications strongly preferred.

Active member of professional organization or technical society preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents.

Ability to communicate effectively, whether orally or written.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area and volume.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
