The selected Structural Project Manager will perform technical oversight, staff development, contract management, technical and cost proposal development, project performance and client management for targeted statewide and regional clients.
The Structures Project Manager will lead and execute interdisciplinary projects and/or specific building components of a project, with a focus on federal projects, but will include a broad range of customer and project types. The role will be responsible for managing scope, schedule, and budget of projects and tasks across the project lifecycle – from conceptual studies to full design and construction administration. Responsible for planning and managing project staffing requirements, reporting project performance, and identifying and addressing scope creep, schedule, or quality issues to ensure a successful delivery of assigned projects. Client facing, primary interface with customers to include our contractor partners on design-build projects.
The successful candidate will preferably have experience managing projects across the full project life cycle as well as comprehensive knowledge of complete building and building systems engineering/design, all types of vertical and lateral wind and seismic resisting systems, and all types of building materials (steel, masonry, concrete, etc.). Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record of creative problem-solving, strong organizational skills, successful project management development and delivery, and a thorough technical understanding of construction documents, detailing, and constructability reviews. Responsibilities include:
•Collaborate with the national Bridge and Structures Technical Services Manager, as well as structural engineering managers from other Michael Baker offices around the country, and will be part of a dynamic team responsible for expanding the structural engineering practice currently servicing state, county, and municipal clients.
•Prepare technical and cost proposals to win work.
•Participate in professional society meetings, as appropriate; where you will work to develop and maintain relationships with key clients, teaming partners, and potential technical staff hires.
•Manage structural engineering projects for federal or other clients.
•Direct and coordinate staffing plans and activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budget
•You will need an Arizona P.E. A California P.E. and S.E. is desired.
•You’ll need a bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Management, or similar degree.
•10-15 years of experience in building structural engineering, with a minimum of 5 years managing projects, teams and clients
•Expansive knowledge of related building engineering disciplines, including Architectural, Mechanical, Civil, Fire Protection, and Electrical Engineering
•Knowledge of frequency and vibration analysis
•Federal DoD experience (desired)
•Design/Build alternative project delivery experience (desired)
•Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products
•US Citizen, eligible for security clearance
•LEED accreditation and sustainable project experience (desired)
•Project Management Professional certification (PMP) (highly desired)
•You should have experience with structural building design, existing structure evaluation, and seismic analysis, design, and detailing, and complex structural analysis software such as Revit, RISA, SAP, and Midas
