The Project Engineer is responsible for designing transportation structures including bridge superstructures, substructures, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures using knowledge of structure engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisorto less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
  • Data collection such as performing field structure inspections
  • Perform design computations
  • Design projects in accordance with AASHTO LRFD, NJDOT and NJTA bridge design manuals
  • Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications, quantities and estimates
  • Prepare proposals as required
  • Attend meetings with clients
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality

Required Skills

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program (Master Degree is a plus)
  • 5-10 years of experience in structural bridge design
  • New Jersey Professional Engineer License required (Additional NY and PA Licenses are desirable)
  • Experience working with NJDOT, NJTA, and Various Counties. (Additional experience with NYC DOT is desirable)
  • Proficient in PADOT design software, LEAP Bridge, LARS and STAAD. (MDX and Midas Experiences are desirable)
  • NBIS bridge inspection experience is desirable, but not required
  • Experiences with MicroStation and AutoCAD are desirable, but not required

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
