As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will design, develop, and implement ground support structures supporting the New Shepard Program. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of design, analysis, assembly, testing and support of flight operations. Your passion for space vehicle support systems means you are committed to the necessary quality and attention to detail required to support human space flight. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, analysis and development of structural and mechanical ground support equipment and structures
  • Design, analysis and development of ground hydraulic sub-systems.
  • Support configuration development and trade studies
  • Develop system requirements, perform flow down, and verification
  • Create and comply with interface definition and control documents
  • Create drawings, specifications and other documentation
  • Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; manage vendor/subcontractor performance
  • Plan and conduct tests, and review data
  • Provide technical guidance for equipment integration and operation through lifecycle
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status
  • Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
  • Identify opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering and at least 5 years of experience with design of mechanical structures
  • Demonstrated experience on recently developed mechanical systems, hydraulic systems and/or structures such as:
    • Static and dynamic mechanical structures for supporting personnel and/or heavy equipment
    • Modifications to existing structure
    • Buckling and/or compressive failure critical structural element design
    • Material selection, compatibility and manufacturing techniques
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software
  • Experience with computer assisted analysis tools
  • Experience in hydraulic/fluid systems modeling and analysis
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Demonstrated expertise with industry standard analysis tools: Nastran, Ansys, STAAD, Optistruct, LS/Dyna, Hypermesh
  • Awareness of composite design and analysis matters
  • Experience using PTC Creo and Windchill
  • Familiar with KSC-DE-512-SM, NASA GSE Design RequirementsKnowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control
  • Project management experience to include vendor selection, management, and product acceptance
