Job Description

STV Incorporated is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer with 5-10 years of relevant experience for our Atlanta, GA office to work on various bridge design and construction projects. Along with bridge design, the engineer will review design plans and construction submittals for public infrastructure projects.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Design and analysis of new and existing bridges, retaining walls, culverts, temporary shoring, and other structures.
  • Bridge rehabilitation design.
  • Bridge load ratings.
  • Construction document production, including drawings and specifications.
  • Performing bridge condition inspections, including leading bridgeinspection teams.
  • Preparing bridgeinspectionreports and other structural investigation reports.
  • Review of shop drawings and providing responses to contractor’s requests for information.
  • Providing quality checks of engineer’s computations, designs, or inspectionreports.
  • Review of various design plans and construction submittals for projects occurring on or adjacent to the railroad right-of-way. 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong skills in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, pre-stressed concrete and timber structures related to transportation.
  • Strong working knowledge of various railroad, State and local entities specifications and preferences.
  • Experience in bridge design, including bridge rehabilitation design. Bridge hydraulics experience is a plus.
  • Experience in use of Microstation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency using structural analysis and design software, such as LARSA, LeapBridge, Risa3d, and STAAD.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Experience with Class I, Shortline, or regional railroads.
  • Experience working with State and Local Entities.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS.
  • FHWA-NHI-130055: Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges or recent refresher course (FHWA-NHI-130053).
  • Experience with bridge management database systems.
  • OSHA Confined Space, or Construction Safety and Health certification.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Mathcad.
  • Experience with the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Manual for rail design (preferred).
