As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for the detailed structural analysis for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of static and dynamic analysis of primary and secondary structural design as well as development of analysis processes. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Detailed analysis of primary and secondary airframe structures
  • Detailed fatigue and damage tolerance analysis of primary and secondary airframe structures
  • Supporting configuration development and trade studies
  • Improving enterprise analysis capabilities such as creating process automation tools for model creation, strength checks, and analysis report generation
  • Collaborating with designers and junior structural analysts in structural analysis best practices
  • Identification of opportunities for safety improvements and operational cost savings
  • Interface with technical leaders across the company on a broad array of structural analysis topics to implement analysis methods, requirements, and policy
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget and technical status

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience with aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive;
  • Demonstrated experience on launch vehicles, aircraft, or automotive in several of the following areas:
  • Vehicle load path definition and internal loads development;
  • Stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures (shear beams, skin-stringer panels, fittings, sandwich panels, etc);
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace analysis methods (Bruhn, Peery, Roark, etc);
  • Structural optimization using standard industry codes (Optistruct, HyperSizer, Nastran SOL 200, etc)
  • Demonstrated expertise with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Direct experience with internal loads development and model validation;
  • Composite design and analysis skills in any thermoset composites.
  • Experience in conventional aircraft fatigue and damage tolerance methods including crack growth assessment (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc), failsafe/safe-life approaches, residual strength, flight load spectra and aircraft repair servicing;
  • Experience in damage tolerance NDE/NDI/repair and failure theories in non-metallic materials such as sandwich structures, carbon fiber laminate, bonded structures, etc;
  • Experience with aerospace structural certification;
  • Manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development;
  • Demonstrated process automation experience using scripting languages is highly desired (VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN, etc)
  • Experience with ProEngineer Wildfire 4 or greater
