The Strategic Marketing Manager will lead a team of Market Analysts to create a trend sensing & foresighting capability and to complete industry analysis, competitive analysis and market mapping to inform growth options across the enterprise.  The position requires collaboration with global Technology, Business, Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Strategy as well as collaboration withexternal customers, co-suppliers, and other influencers to ensure all efforts have a strong market connect and enable robust market assessments and growth idea identification.  It is expected that the person filling this position will balance their focus between ongoing capability build and global market assessments.  This position will report to the Director Strategic Marketing & Innovation in Corporate Innovation.   



Key Responsibilities: 

  • Build capability for identifying and tracking relevant industry trends and global macro-trends with implications for growth or threats to core businesses
  • Build tools & capability resulting in a living global opportunity map for Eastman that identifies target market areas for innovation deep dives
  • Facilitate workshops and strategy development using the above capability across all platform teams in Corporate Innovation and on defined business strategy deep dives
  • Develop and communicate a compelling future vision that influences others to take action
  • Assess specified markets to determine the overall opportunity for Eastman materials with recommendation on initial and ongoing portfolio of projects for development
  • Provide project management and leadership for development and execution of work modules
  • Utilize "best practice" marketing tools to gain market insights required to identify growth opportunities
  • Master and utilize key Eastman strategy and planning tools, frameworks, and analytics, especially those related to markets, customers, and innovation
  • Generate and structure strategic options for market entry into areas identified for growth
  • Create a collaborative team environment in which members actively participate, take risks and seek accountability for actions
  • Grow and maintain a broad network within Eastman to help see patterns and influence decisions
  • Develop a highly effective team by leveraging team/individual strengths, minimizing weaknesses, spreading accountability and coaching skill development
  • Manage complex business issues, growth platforms and coach others in project development and management

    Desired Experience:

  • Experience in strategic planning or strategic marketing, including being responsible for developing key elements of growth strategies (either corporate or business unit level)
  • Experience in new product launch a plus.  Particularly useful would be experience in introducing existing products into new applications and developing and overseeing implementation ofsegment specific marketing and sales plans
  • Experience with multiple type of market and data analysis, including but not limited to:
  • Customer behavior, including detailed buying/shopping analysis
  • Customer needs, including future/unmet needs
  • Industry structure, including analysis of competitive dynamics
  • Value chain mapping
  • Substitute material/solutions analysis and/or EVE analysis
  • Cost analysis
  • Sales tracking and analysis
  • Experience in B2B markets, although time spent in B2C markets a plus.
  • Preferred industries include:
  • Technology driven industries, e.g. specialty materials, life sciences (both pharma and devices), and IT
  • Engineered/industrial products
  • Consumer durables


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Technical, Business or Marketing undergraduate degree preferred but not required
  • MBA preferred

Required Experience: 

  • Minimum of 10 years of business, strategic marketing or corporate strategy experience
  • Consulting/analytics firm or part of the corporate strategy group or strategic marketing group of a leading corporation preferred
