SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for a Strategic Content Manager to join the Marketing and Communications Services (MCS) team in our Chicago office. This position requires an in-depth understanding of how to conceive, develop and implement content strategies for organizations, as well as a willingness to engage in a variety of projects ranging from client leadership and publication oversight to research, writing, editing, proofreading, HTML coding/design and advertising sales support. The Strategic Content Manager is a brand new opening for our MCS Content team and is a great opportunity for an individual that is excited by responsibilities that span multiple clients and industries.

What You Will Do

  • Craft and implement content strategy plans for multiple content vehicles (online and in print)
  • Work closely and extensively with the content director, various executive directors, creative teams and volunteer members to execute integrated content strategies
  • Develop and implement standards for editorial/content quality
  • Edit content and work with authors and other volunteers to improve quality
  • Contribute to the strategic direction and success of the content team and MCS overall
  • Directly supervise members of the content team, to include delegation, review, coaching and development
  • Ensure the peer review process is efficient, timely and conforms to the highest ethical standards

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related fields
  • 5-7 years of relevant practical experience in content development and/or editorial, to include print and electronic media

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory and budget management experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with a peer review process and experience working with editorial committees is a plus
  • Proficiency with basic computer programming, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
