Summary/General Description of Job:

Primary responsibility is the Operations and Maintenance of the Central Utility Plant (CUP). Ensure proper operation and maintenance of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, site buildings, associated equipment and electrical systems. Required to work rotational shifts, including days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends as needed.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Operate and maintain site-critical Engineering systems and equipment that supply the facility with heat, utility and conditioned power, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental and critical systems in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, industry best practices, and manufacturers specifications
  • Be able to work with others while maintaining a safe and efficient work place.
  • Support Chief Engineer with the engineering systems, drawings and equipment, including boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, pumps, electricaldistribution systems, generators, UPS systems, etc.
  • Monitor and control building equipment; operate facility’s BAS
  • Make periodic inspections of all Engineering systems and equipment operations, water quality, chemical usage , boiler /chilled water testing and equipment operating logs
  • Proficiently use test equipment and devices pertinent to building operating systems and analyze test results
  • Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences. Respond to emergency situations and perform any and all tasks necessary for the protection of occupants and property
  • Under minimal supervision, perform maintenance on mission critical environment maintenance activities
  • Operate and maintain critical systems such as HVAC, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, building automated systems, and utility systems
  • Lifting and physical exertion required and including; climbing, stooping, walking stairs and ladders.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

  • Working with the Quality, Safety and other work groups to outline the work to be done, after which incumbent is expected to work independently. Guidelines include those established by the SPC Manager, Corporate Office and Federal, State and local Regulations.
  • Plans and organizes work to meet requireddeadlines.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):


  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive and hands-on experience in an environment of similar proportions and mission as the assigned area of responsibility
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in facilities maintenance with thorough understanding of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems, including 5 years related experience in data center or complex mission critical environments
  • Must possess an active HVAC Journeyman or Third Grade Stationary Engineers License in Virginia, Maryland or the District of Columbia.
  • EPA - CFC Universal Certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government National Agency Check (NAC) clearance and/or security clearance if required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government National Agency Check (NAC) clearance and/or security clearance if required.
  • Valid state Driver’s License and acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or testing required on the contract.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
