As State and Local Tax Manager, based in Watsonville CA, you will be responsible for using independent discretion and knowledge in overseeing the preparation of sales, use and property tax returns and schedules, or other tax documents, to ensure accurate tax reporting or tax planning. The ability toresearch and educate others is key to this role. Duties and work experience will include the following:

• Manage sales and use tax staff working on a variety of tax returns and projects.

• Assist with the management of sales and use tax audits. Evaluate potential tax exposure, develop and implement audit strategies and maintain successful auditor relationships. Provide timely communication of audit results to management.

• Manage tax responsibilities for all mergers and acquisitions. Partner with M&A and other internal teamson review of due diligence work for sales and use tax matters.

• Participate in special tax projects as needed.


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • CPA or MST preferred

Work Experience

  • 10 + years' of experience in related field

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Sales tax experience working in a public accounting firm, law firm or corporate tax department
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform tax research and develop planning concepts
  • Strong managerial skills
  • Ability to handle recurring deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to teach your area of expertise
  • Construction experience, a plus
