The Solid Mechanics group at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) is seeking qualified applicants to join the group as a Staff Research Engineer. The candidate is expected to interact with UTRC Program Offices and United Technologies Corporation (UTC) business units to enhance existing programs, create new opportunities, participate in the acquisition of contract awards, and provide technical contributions in the area of durability of high temperature materials in gas turbine engines. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, multinational team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills, capable of interacting with UTRC senior management as well as members of the technical staff. The candidate must be able to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports and presentations.
Masters in Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering / Engineering Mechanics / Materials Science & Engineering. With at least 7 years of relevant work related experience.
PhD Mechanical Engineering / Aerospace Engineering / Engineering Mechanics / Materials Science & Engineering. With at least 7 years of relevant work related experience.
- Proficiency in the following are required: (1) Thorough understanding of thermal and structural aspects of the design affecting durability of high temperature materials, (2) finite element analysis in ANSYS or ABAQUS, (3) expertise in P&W Durability tools, (4) expertise in CAD tools, (5) programming in MATLAB or other equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability in creating ideas and executing independently
- Proven success in innovative, strategic and technical thinking; willingness to champion and challenge new technical ideas
- Excellent communication skills using Word, Excel and PowerPoint; high energy; team player
US Citizenship or Permanent US Residence is required for this position
