The Staff Program Manager, Commercialization Excellence, works as part of a concentrated team to deliver business process improvements and act as an advocate for Illumina's Product Commercialization Process (PCP). This role engages with cross-functional business partners to define best-practice commercialization process guidelines with clear roles & responsibilities that foster collaboration and successful execution. The person is accountable for coordinating matrixed teams, and developing comprehensive process documentation, training, and organizational change management focused on advancing commercialization process capabilities and understanding. As a PCP Steward, this person will also directly consult with Product Marketing and Product Managers working on active market strategies and commercialization projects to give real-time guidance on both best-practice process and project management tools. This role is an exciting opportunity to guide commercialization teams and deliver scalable cross-functional process enhancements to simplify the way portfolio and project strategies are executed.

The Commercialization Excellence team within Illumina's Commercial Strategy & Governance organization is responsible for the development and stewardship of Illumina's Product Commercialization Process (PCP). The commercialization process covers Marketing and Commercial activities and checkpoints tied to both the Product Development Process & Partnering Center of Excellence, dictating best-practices for delivering Illumina's product portfolio. The commercialization process extends from market segment & product portfolio strategic planning through product commercialization to on-market product management & portfolio rationalization.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Understand company objectives to identify, scope, develop and implement global commercialization process improvements with minimal guidance
  • Resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways by engaging cross-functional business partners and leading teams to address
  • Exhibit a deep knowledge of new product introduction (NPI) and go-to-market business process best-practices
  • Partner with Marketing, Commercial, Development, Operations, Business Development, Legal and Finance to develop processes focused on product commercialization excellence
  • Leverage digital collaboration tools (Confluence, Jira, Tableau) to manage process improvement projects and to steward process with commercialization teams – advocate organizationally for both tools and process as best practice

Experience and Skills:

  • 8+ years of professional experience with 5+ years of professional experience in Commercial or Product Management roles directly supporting new product introduction and on-market products
  • Diverse role background with other roles in either Product Development, Operations, IT, Finance, or Business Development is a plus
  • Understands best-in-class go-to-market and product commercialization processes
  • Proven track record for leading teams and delivering cross-functional business process improvements
  • Experience with Atlassian Tools (Confluence, Jira) for project management is a must, Tableau is desirable
  • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure, with limited supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communicator, including presentation skills; ability to position initiatives, decisions, and outcomes to diverse audiences
  • Excellent project planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously
  • Experience with program management and associated methodologies
  • Build relationships based on trust and confidence with key stakeholders
  • Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic, multicultural business environment
  • BA/BS in Marketing, Operations, Science, Engineering, or Business is required. MBA preferred.
