Work under the administrative direction of engineering management. Is the highest level technical leader in terms of advanced knowledge of technical and scientific principles, theories and concepts within a technical discipline. Is able to apply this knowledge to develop innovative solutions for cross-discipline, complex technical problems in support of company business objectives. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conceptualize designs and invent solutions to engineering problems that address all program technical, cost and schedule commitments. Prove strong technical guidance, leadership and expertise in implementing solutions to ensure all work is completed within cost and schedule commitments. Provide effective coaching of less experienced engineers, sharing knowledge and experience. Evaluate supplier products for adequacy of applications. Effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management, customers and subcontractors on the program team.
Recognize and address risks across a variety of technical disciplines while guiding advanced technological solutions to completion within business constraints. Prepare proposals and statements of work and act as principal investigator and/or technical team leader on engineering projects. Provide input on program cost estimates, budget and schedules based on development schedule and impact of scope of changes. Perform technical evaluations for new business opportunities.
Provide technical briefings and design reviews to management and customers; generate technical reports. Act as technical representative for a wide range of engineering issues. Assist, direct and mentor personnel where necessary to complete program goals. Identify and develop new technologies, advancing company core technology to support company business objectives. Employ lean engineering principles.
Interface with contacts in government and in industry to develop new products, programs. Create and nurture technical collaborations in support of new business development. Direct and assist personnel where necessary to complete goals. Identify and develop new technologies, advancing company core skills to support business objectives. Make effective use of lean engineering initiatives.
Broad knowledge of an advanced and technically specialized field such as avionics, software or systems. Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field, with at least 1 to 2 years graduate level work leading to a Master’s degree or equivalent learning experience. 10 to 13 years of progressive engineering experience.
