Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Mission Defense Cyber Team has an opening for a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer Cyber LC Product Team Lead to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position can be filled at multiple Sentinel enabled site locations: (Roy, Utah; Bellevue, NE), and candidate selection will be commensurate with qualifications.

The selected candidate will lead the MDT Cyber LC Product Team with cyber engineering and assessment activities for a medium to high-complexity project. Responsibilities will include coordinating efforts with functional development engineering disciplines and interfacing with Customers, Customer contractors, Engineering & Program Management, Cybersecurity program leadership, Manufacturing, Supply Chain subcontractors, and Mission Assurance. The candidate will serve as a Lead Cyber Engineer for one of the MDT Cyber Product Teams, supporting the Sentinel program.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will lead and influence technical product requirements, design, and implementation of cyber robust products in a dynamic people-focused and engineering solution driven environment interacting with users, customers, and multiple specialty engineering discipline developers.
  • The candidate will lead and direct a cyber security engineering and assessment team throughout the development life cycle including requirement specification, design architecture maturation, design specification, implementation, verification, validation, and cyber security assessments, product flight test, sell-off, and delivery.
  • The candidate will ensure strict program controls process to ensure mitigation of risks and support obtaining formal Assessment & Authorization of systems.
  • The candidate will engage in regular and routine communication with key stakeholders including the US Government, program management, cyber security and IT organizations, engineering team and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • The candidate will possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously.
  • The candidate will support program management goals associated with tasks, schedules, and budgets for successful implementation of the earned value managed contract requirements.
  • The candidate will provide weekly status on tasks assigned.
  • The candidate will lead their team in accomplishing statements of work assigned by program leadership.
  • The candidate will brief internal and customer leadership on progress of work assigned.
  • The candidate will assist with the creation/generation of artifact evidence for system package/record completeness.
  • The candidate will perform assessments of systems and networks within the networking environment and/or Sentinel enclave and identify where those systems and networks deviate from acceptable configurations, industry standards and program policy; this is achieved through passive evaluations such as compliance audits and active evaluations such as vulnerability assessments.
  • The candidate performs analyses to validate established security requirements and to recommend additional security requirements and safeguards.
  • The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the team’s quality completion of associated technical content for cyber security program CDRLs. Additionally, the candidate will oversee the team’s review/assessment of subcontractor SDRL to be included in the prime contractor’s CDRLs.
  • The candidate will assist in the development of cyber requirements and serve as an advisor on cyber requirement development, enumeration, and validation efforts with IPT teams.
  • The candidate will interface with functional engineering departments to be part of the group that secures qualified cyber security team staffing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 14 years of experience, Master’s degree with 12 years of experience, or a PhD with 9 years of experience in: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, System Engineering, Cybersecurity Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • U.S Citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Must possess DoD 8570 IASSE Level II, and IAM III certification (CISSP).
  • Must possess or be able to obtain DoD 8570 IASSE Level III certification (e.g., ISSEP, ISSAP) within 6 months of employment.
  • Candidates should expect to work on site (in the office) at least 90% of their time, largely from within a classified environment.
  • Experience as Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, Technical lead, or other leadership role in a program office or business function with demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Cybersurvivability and NIST/DoD RMF processes (NIST 800-37, 800-53, 800-171, and the CNSS 1253).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Experience in the management and maintenance of systems required to satisfy the. Certification and Accreditation requirements under the NIST RMF and CSF.
  • Experience with Rational Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) tool.
  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools e.g., Cameo.
  • Experience with Agile product management.
  • Experience with Atlassian Suite (Jira/Confluence).
  • Experience as a scrum master, certified scrum master.
  • Experience in development of complex RF or Digital systems and sub-systems.
  • Experience in defense contractor new engineering product development and delivery to gov’t customer.
  • Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM) managing Earned Value Management System (EVMS) projects.
  • Experience in either Cyber Requirements Development/Enumeration or Cyber Assessment activities.
  • Experience writing Cybersecurity related plans, procedures, and artifacts.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering, Cyber, Design, Requirements, or Test process.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

This position reports to Roy, UT, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Bellevue, NE, NE, USA.


Salary Range: $153,000 USD - $229,400 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
