Our Opportunity:

The Automation Engineer will implement solutions to ensure automation, performance and availability of the Bank Technology applications meet the team standards and maintain the systems according to our Service Level Agreements. The individual is expected to contribute to Schwab’s journey to mature our DevOps processes by establishing automated recovery processes, streamlining our monitoring processes, and improving our software development practice. This position has opportunities to build new tools, new deployment strategies, CI/CD scripts, build/enhance monitoring dashboards, build/enhance Alerts.

What you’ll do:

  • Identifying opportunities to build innovative tools and solve unique operations problems.
  • Creating apps or scripts to automate operational tasks and incorporate the solutions into our platform.
  • Coordinating with release management to understand the impact of deployments in production.
  • Collaborating with support and development teams.
  • Working closely with team lead and other staff to become educated on the wide array of systems and their interdependencies.
  • Communicating across the organization to maintain awareness, direct restoration efforts and identify situationally appropriate knowledge workers.
  • Identifying existing metrics and monitoring systems to prevent duplication of effort.
  • Elevating awareness of the importance of availability of our platform.
  • Develop and enhance monitoring dashboards, and alerts process to increase availability of the application
  • Perform troubleshooting/debugging, issue triaging, and perform defect fixes, and enhancements of the application.
  • Support Production Readiness processes to ensure the team is ready to support features deployed to production.
  • Actively participating in mentoring junior team members.
  • Working with Team Lead (Sr. Staff level) to design and implement process improvement in our Production Services and Operations.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 year of writing Splunk queries.
  • Proficiency in web based development languages, including HTML, JavaScript, Java, .NET/C#
  • A minimum of 5 years of writing PowerShell, Python, and Perl scripts
  • Experience with a major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, PCF or GCP
  • Experience with Atlassian stack of products including Jira, BitBucket, Bamboo and HipChat
  • Experience with implementing System Monitoring Tools and processes.
  • Experience with implementing Alerts processes as a preventative measures.
  • Experience with implementing System Monitoring Tools and processes.
  • Exposed to CI/CD processes.
