The Opportunity
Sr. US FP&A Analyst

Job Summary
As part of the U.S. Financial Planning and Analysis team, creates, reviews, and analyzes budgets for assigned business units; ensures expenses are managed within their approved budgets; advises assigned groups on compliance, regulatory policies and requirements related to budgets.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as point of contact for business units; acts as a department liaison and a financial liaison for internal departments; assists assigned groups with budget software and technical issues; provides system training for staff as needed

Monitors actual expenses and provides variance explanations for significant differences between actual expenses and the budget/forecast; reviews and analyzes budget expenses for compliance and regulatory issues; corrects account and budget center postings; prepares, reviews, and reconciles expenses; advises about availability of funds and proper usage of funds

Assists in the development of budgets and reviews for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives

Prepares monthly forecasts; prepares month to date, quarter to date, and year to
date variance explanations; conducts meetings with leaders of assigned groups to discuss and review budget reports; provides recommendations for reclassification of expenses and variances

Develops and provides appropriate reports and metrics to support informed decision making; continuously reviews, recommends and implements improvements that will increase the value of reports for management

Orients, trains, and provides guidance to lower level analysts

Travels as needed

Recommends improvements to processes and procedures to streamline activities, enhance service turnaround time, improve productivity, and improve quality

Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field

Five years of professional job-related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Insurance industry experience (preferred)


Job Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of budgeting and expense management

Proficient in Microsoft Office with intermediate skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

In depth knowledge of budget system in order to assist assigned groups and other analysts

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Excellent analytical skills
Understanding of business fundamentals and an understanding of quantitative business-based analysis and metrics

Knowledge of accounting procedures and familiarity with IRS regulations

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with management, internal, and external customers
