ABOUT THIS POSITION

Provides a full range of administration tasks in support of Infinity’s UNIX systems.  This includes system configuration, filesystem maintenance, capacity planning, performance and tuning, operating system patch analysis and user account maintenance.  In addition, assists with implementing a disaster recovery plan, designing and testing backup procedures and establishing configuration standards and documentation.

SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:

*1.       Serves as project leader for Infinity UNIX projects as directed.

*2.       Performs all system administration tasks for the UNIX systems supporting our Web and Oracle based applications. Maintains the UNIX software with patch applications and new version installations as needed.

*3.       Responsible for the nightly UNIX backups and offsite tape rotation. Administers the backup software, including patches and new version installations.

*4.       Responsible for the performance, tuning and monitoring of all UNIX systems to ensure efficient operation.

*5.       Assists the DBA team with the integration and tuning of Oracle databases, kernel parameters and filesets.

*6.       Coordinates maintenance and repair for all UNIX systems servers and attached hardware.

*7.       Responsible for capacity planning on all UNIX systems.

*8.       Assist with maintenance of disaster recovery documentation, materials and procedures for all UNIX systems.

*9.       Configures and maintains and manages the Infinity UNIX SAN environment.

*10.     Configures and maintains the failover Sun Cluster environment for high availability.

*11.     Coordinates and facilitates meetings with other business teams as needed.

  12.     Performs all other duties as assigned.

*13.     Must have regular predictable attendance.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1.       Four (4) yeardegree in Computer Science or related discipline is preferred.  UNIX Certification is preferred.

2.       Five (5) + years experience with UNIX hardware and UNIX OS required.

Specific Knowledge:

               Advanced Solaris and HP-UX experience, including Solaris8, Solaris9, Solaris 10 and HP-UX 11.0.

               General  system administration knowledge to include:

                     User creation.

                     File system creation.

                     Kernel configuration.

                     OS Patch analysis, implementation.

                     Printer set up and configuration

               Scripting knowledge including Korn and POSIX shell programming, Perl and/or C languages.

               Solid understanding of networking, especially OSI and TCP/IP protocols.

               Advanced knowledge of cron and other job scheduling concepts.

               Advanced knowledge of backup solutions and tape management systems.

               Experience with:

                     SUN hardware

                     Oracle

                     Veritas NetBackup

                     Sun Java Enterprise System: mail, calendar, directory, web and portal.

                     DLT tape silo hardware and Fiber/SCSI connections.

                     SAN (Storage Area Networks) for open systems, Brocade technology preferred.

                     System performance and tuning.

                     High availability clustered systems - Sun Cluster.

          Desired:

               Experience with DNS on Open Systems.

               Prior experience or understanding of UNIX NFS.

               Prior experience in training or mentoring staff.

4.       Ability to communicate well with other business units to identify and resolve problems.

5.       Demonstrated planning and leadership skills in order to effectively provide work direction to team members.
