The Position:
The Senior Technical Leader will work closely with other EPRI R&D technical staff to support a variety of R&D projects with emphasis on providing subject matter expertise in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electromagnetic interference (EMI), TEMPEST, lightning and surge protection, and electromagnetic pulse (EMP). The EPRI PDU sector conducts research, design, and demonstration projects to facilitate higher levels of compatibility, reliability, efficiency, and grid transformation. This position will support all EPRI R&D programs with subject matter expertise in key areas of research that include smart grid, electric transportation, transmission and distribution systems, substations, energy utilization, grid operations and planning, and others.

Plans, designs, and controls the progress of complex project work within the technical department to meet member/client objectives; prepares and presents research reports.

Job Functions:
The Senior Technical Leader will be responsible for the design, oversight, and support of R&D projects to be performed by EPRI, and, where applicable, will advance the state-of-knowledge in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electromagnetic interference (EMI), TEMPEST, lightning and surge protection, and electromagnetic pulse (EMP). This position will not have direct people management responsibilities, but will be responsible for mentoring the development of other technical staff. The Senior Technical Leader will plan, design, and control the progress of complex project work to meet objectives; prepare and present research reports and results. The Senior Technical Leader will be expected to:

• Manage small to medium level projects without direct people management responsibilities.
• Assume responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives or problems where the relationships between cause and effect are difficult to establish and little or no precedence exists, and the use of creative imaginative thinking is required.
• Influence project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work.
• Provide input into configuration management and documentation for engineer related projects.
• Lead and prepare proposals, proposal efforts, technical publications, new promotional work, and deliver presentations.
• Maintain familiarity with the progress and problems in assigned technical areas.
• Lead national and international technical networks with manufacturers, consultants, academia, and research organizations.
• Work independently on technical activities without direct supervision
• Maintain familiarity with the progress and problems in assigned technical areas.
• Effective communications are essential. Develop original technical reports and presentations to communicate research and results with colleagues and clients.

Education Level and Years of Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required
• Individuals with advanced degrees may qualify with fewer years of work experience
• 8-10 years of engineering experience or comparable work/educational experience.
• Minimum 10years of work experience in EMC engineering and testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to recognize strategic issues and build collaborative projects.

• Experience in successful proposal preparation, and marketing activities.
