The Air Transport Display Systems organization is looking for a motivated engineer to lead a system development team designing state-of-the-art, industry-leading flight displays for commercial jet airplanes. In this role, you will work with other systems, software, and hardware engineers to create displays solutions that are high quality, reliable and safe. Projects include the Large Display System used on the 737 MAX, 757, 767, 777x and 787 airplanes as well as other commercial Air Transport aircraft.
This position will be Onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA, relocation assistance is available.
Primary Responsibilities:- Provide technical leadership through all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design and modeling, integrating with hardware and software components, system verification and validation
- Provide direction and delegate work to a team of System Engineers, communicate expectations, and hold team members accountable
- Estimate and manage scope, schedule, and budget to deliver systems with expected quality
- Coordinate with engineering and program management to ensure success of the program
- Collaborate with engineers across other engineering disciplines & departments to create a functional system
- Act as a mentor and coach, reviewing the work of junior engineers
- Identify and implement process and product improvements on assigned project
- Working with external customers to document operational scenarios, develop system requirements, define system interfaces, and perform system validation testing
Qualifications/Experience Needed:- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
- Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) is required
- Experience with all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design and modeling, integrating hardware and software components, system verification and validation
- Demonstrated Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more engineering domain areas
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems spanning across multiple disciplines and functional areas
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and develop solutions to implement improvements to systems, products, or processes
- The candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks and coordinating the work of others
- Continuous learner motivated to stay up to date on recent technologies, industry trends and process advances
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation), including ability to communicate with different levels of leadership
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and diverse teams
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience designing and developing safety-critical, real-time, embedded systems
- Experience developing systems and/or products that are compliant with ARP-4754, RTCA DO-178, DO-160 and/or DO-254
- Experience with ARINC standards: ARINC 429, ARINC 664 and ARINC 661
