Function Description:

Business Development & Strategy: Positions in this function work toward identifying opportunities for Lowe's to expand the business through business assessments and strategy development defining the retail category and expanding Lowe's market share of the category.

Family Description: Data Analytics & Customer Insights: Responsible for analyzing data across a number of verticals, including marketing / market research, enterprise and Lowe's functions. Helps build a competitive advantage by providing accurate and timely information based on big data that is used to improve decision making, identify inefficient business processes, drive cost savings and identify new business opportunities. Works closely with and provides insight to Lowe's business leaders by providing predictive analysis, data visualization, contextual visualization and insights. Also responsible for analyzing customer and consumer behavior data, which will inform the business on trends across all consumer markets. Builds a competitive advantage by providing accurate and timely information based on consumer data that is used identify new business opportunities, new products, and new strategies. Includes technical marketing positions that direct marketing strategy on product positioning, market penetration and pricing.

Design statistical experiments, generate and test working hypothesis to support key business strategies
Enable homogeneity of selection across geographic areas, product categories, etc.
Continuously inform business units about results
Identify randomized test & control cohorts to avoid bias and outline experiment outcomes, select best-fit parameters
Make casual references about relationships between independent and dependent variables
Exclude confounding effects of extaneousvariables
Measurement of incrementality by developing modules that are reusable and scalable and by attaching levels of confidence to results to enable decisions
Analyze impact attributes and optimize parameters for roll out OR redesign of experiement
Continuously inform business units about results


•Analyze, interpret and visualize complex and possibly unstructured data
• Build and/or validate recommendations based on sound methodology, data gathering, and data analysis
• Use demographic attributes to understand key drivers of business results (revenue, cost, people)
•Communicate complex statistical concepts into common-speak for the benefit of business units
•Present methodology and results to CXOs and other Senior leadership
• Stay abreast of current industry trends, emerging technologies, and new methodologies and to share learnings with team members
• Partner with functions like Marketing, Merchandising, Pricing & Promotions, Supply Chain, Operations, IT, Data Engg, BI, and Finance organizations while working alongside corporate and other business unit teams to identify solutions.

Required Education/Experience

  • One-way ANOVA, multiple comparison & ANCOVA
  • Types of data & distribution
  • Multi-variate Unobserved Component Model, which can be used as a multiple regression model with time-varying coefficients
  • Use of multiple explanatory variables to accurately modelfor sales
  • Time series (including Trend Comp, Seasonal Comp, CyclicComp, Regression Comp, Irregular Comp)
  • Deep Understanding of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications,including probability, general linear models, non-linear, and logistic regression analysis, multi-level modeling and clustering techniques
  • Experience in working with large, complex datasets including data transformation operations such as dataset merging, cleansing, imputation of missing values and other operations related to exploratory data analysis.
  • Knowledge of prior experience of powerful statistical software (preferably R).
  • Knowledge and prior experience of SQL and scripting languages such as Python for fast data/text manipulation and automating the running of programs
  • Very strong communication skills.
  • Should be able to seamlessly communicate with multiple stakeholders across different verticals in the organization in parallel and manage expectations.
  • Should always wear the lense of the "bigger picture."
  • Self driven, unafraid to ask pertinent questions.
