Job Description

Basic FunctionAdvises teams and conducts R&D and technical studies, and performs a wide variety of technical work which will lead to new or improved products/product lines under marketing, cost, timeand regulatory construction. Performs a wide variety of technical work in planning and design of products and or components and in the development, application and approval of design modifications to increase production quality and/or quality

  • Plans and conducts engineering research, design, development and/or manufacturing engineering projects as assigned
  • Will monitor and control progress of projects to ensure sound application of engineering principles are used and design intent is being followed/achieved
  • Coordinates with other units, vendors and senior managers as needed to ensure specific cost, timeand/or regulatory standards are met
  • Will communicate with customers telephonically and/or in person to resolve product issues and/or coordinate on special orders.
  • Has administrative authority for engineering drawings, BOM and engineering change orders
  • Will submit periodic reports on assigned topics to appropriate personnel
  • Will train others on functionally related topics
  • Will evaluate the results of projects and provide manufacturing guidance/assistance as needed
  • May coordinate the activities of 1 or more exempt and/or non-exempt employee
  • May provide feedback on performance of one or more employeesbased on pre-established performance parameters

Job Requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, etc. Generally involves sitting most of the time
  • Must have the ability to work with and assemble small objects and component parts
  • Ability to operate common office equipment (e.g. calculator, PC, telephone, etc.)
  • Must have good visual acuity and demonstrate fine motor skills

Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to observe and correct minute inconsistencies (e.g. in the printed word, product appearance, etc.)
  • Must be able to generate and explain detailed schedules, performance and design objectives
  • Must be able to complete detailed documentation accurately
  • Must be able to analyze and correct complex product and/or process issues of a broad scope using independent judgment

Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred

  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tools (e.g. pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hammer, etc.), power tools and test/inspection equipment
  • Demonstrated mechanical/electrical design and problem solving skills
  • 6-8 years related engineering experience

Education/Special Training RequiredB.S. in mechanical engineering or related engineering curriculum
