The Sr QA Manager manages the day to day food safety and quality systems of the facility, and manages the Quality Assurance and Sanitation Departments, including the HACCP and Quality plans. Serves as the primary contact for USDA and manages all interactions with USDA. Provides broad based product and process related technical and regulatory support to operations, and supporting departments. Has specific responsibilities in numerous SQF food safety and quality programs. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Serves as the designated Oberto SQF and Quality Practitioner as required in the SQF code.
  • Also responsible for document control program records management program, GMP’s policy and proceedures.
  • Oversees the execution of the HACCP, Quality Plans, Food Safety and pre-requisite programs and assures proper monitoring and reporting occurs, confirms that critical limits are met, and when needed that proper corrective actions are taken and documented. Reports trends or concerns related to these programs to Operations management in a timely and effective manner.
    • Manages the Foreign Material Contamination Control policy and directs investigations and corrective actions into foreign material incidents.
    • Manages the Non-Conforming Product and Equipment procedures (Product Hold Procedures). Assures that non-conforming products and equipment are effectively managed to prevent distribution of violative products (Washington Specific).
  • Serves as the primary contact with USDA and similar regulators. Has primary responsibility to advise on USDA compliance to the plant, and coordinates all responses and communications with USDA on issues or concerns. Manages written responses to Non Compliance Reports (NR) from USDA. Maintains a positive working relationship with In-plant and Supervisory USDA staff.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of applicable food safety, quality regulations, customer expectations, customer specifications and quality assurance programs pertaining to the plant.
  • Plays a key supporting role in all Third Party Food Safety and Quality audits required for the facility.
  • Manages the Product Sampling, Testing and Analysis program for the facility and assures that all required testing occurs and is properly managed. Assures that effective sampling, testing and analyses programs are established to verify quality and food safety and adjusts programs as appropriate.
  • Oversees the Corrective and Preventative Action policy including assurance that significant food safety and quality events are properly documented in this system, as well as coordinates with Plant management effective and timely resolution of these events.
  • Manages the Product Release (Pre-Shipment Release) procedures to assure that quality and food safety expectations have been meet prior to shipment of products.
  • Assures via QA monitoring activities that Cleaning and Sanitation programs are effective and properly executed.
  • Oversee the Pest Control Program for the Plan and Warehouses. Serve as the routine contact for PCO, receive reports, review records, access trends and needed corrective actions, assure PCO provides the contracted services. Report on trends and deficiencies in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assures that appropriate written procedures for quality assurance functions are developed and followed.
  • Leads in investigation and solution of product food safety and quality concerns.
  • Provides direction and oversight to the QA Team. Responsible for maintaining adequately trained staff to accomplish QA staff requirements.
  • Supervises the following positions: QA Techncian 1, QA Technican 2, QA Lead, Lab Technologist (Tennesse Specific) and QA Supervisor.
  • Management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which have become non-compliant with specified requirements.
  • Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintain accountability to Oberto Brands Food Safety and Quality Principles.
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Systems. Informs Management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which have become non-compliant with specified requirements
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Back Up: The VP of Manufacturing or the QA Supervisors is the back up to the QA Manager for plant quality responsibilities.
  • Back Up: The QA Manager is the back up for the QA Supervisor.
  • Back Up: The Technical Services Director is the backup SQF Practitioner to the QA Manager.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field required.
  • SQF Certified Practitioner
  • HACCP Certified
  • Internal Auditor Trained
  • 5+ years of Food Safety, Quality Control, Quality Assurance or other regulatory related management experience within a USDA or FDA environment.
  • Experience in implementing and operating GFSI programs (BRC, SQF, etc.) in food processing environment.
