About Us

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well-known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists. That's why we believe diversity is our greatest strength. HDR is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer.

We believe that the way we work can add meaning and value to the world. That ideas inspire positive change. That coloring outside the lines can illuminate fresh perspectives. And that small details yield important realizations. Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.

HDR has an immediate opening for a mining industry expert in the area of water and wastewater treatment engineering and design for mining/metals projects. This individual will provide mining/industrial water and wastewater treatment leadership across the Resources Business Group. The successful candidate will have 10 years or more expertise in pilot study and process engineering, with exposure to design, construction, and operation of mining water and wastewater treatment systems. The same skill set is applicable to a number of industrial sectors, but direct experience in these areas (steel, aluminum, chemicals) is not critical and not required.

This person will initially support ongoing existing projects. However, part of the responsibility of this position is to develop relationships in themining industry and serve as a client manager and project manager for mining clients as well. This will not happen instantly, but with continued focus on opportunities for this role, it is expected that over the next few years the position will transition to that as a primary role. This person will initially perform engineering reviews, studies (bench scale and pilot lab studies, conceptual design/ feasibility, optimization, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting), prepare engineering deliverables (detailed water/mass/chemistry/cost models, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, data sheets, equipment layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications and sizing calculations) for the design of mining and industrial water and wastewater treatment systems and support the development of business opportunities with mining and other industrial clients principally in the mining areas of the western United States, western Canada and Alaska.

Provide technical reviews during the design and construction of mining and industrial water and wastewater projects. Project and technical task management, including directing junior mining and water staff, preparing reports and monitoring schedules, scopes and budgets. Will function as a senior level technical specialist and project manager on mid-large scale projects.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Senior Process Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for projects involving studies, design, and construction of new mining and other industrial water and wastewater projects
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients for project status updates, project review meetings, briefings, and presentations

  • Interface with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients to gain approval of project analysis and design documents

  • Support marketing and business development initiatives

  • Coordinate process engineering activities with project management and other project team members

  • The position will include some travel for site surveys and meetings with clients, contractors and vendors.
