Sr. Process Engineer at IDEXX in Westbrook, ME

The Senior Process Engineer is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of new manufacturing processes for IDEXX products across all modalities and delivery platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in engineering or related physical science and have a strong track record of success in developing scalable solution formulation and coating processes for manufacturing biologically based reagents. They should possess the technical precedents needed to solve complex process-related problems through the use of both engineering modeling & analysis along with experimentation. They should have previous experience with a liquid film coating, gravure, inkjet, and other coating/application processes. Expertise in liquid film coating is highly desirable.

What can you expect:

• The Senior Process Engineer will lead cross-functional technical teams in the development of new manufacturing processes and transfer them to IDEXX Operations. They will be responsible for all aspects of process development including requirements definition, process design, verification and validation and will deliver key outputs including process maps, pFMEAs, manufacturing documents, in-process test methods, and specifications. They actively work with collaborators from IDEXX assay design teams as well as Assay Analytics, V&V, and IDEXX Operations to complete projects and deliver business outcomes.
• Performs a variety of process engineering activities for coating process development.
• Collaborate with R&D teams and Operation to develop processes to meet product design and manufacturing requirements.
• Develops manufacturing processes and makes feasibility and pilot lots for new product development.
• Develops specifications associated with process output and determines test methods for specification compliance.
• Identify process scale-up and manufacturing risks and implement mitigation strategies for successful coating process scale-up.
• Recommends and justifies new coating equipment/technologies for improving an existing process or establishing a new process for solving challenges of new product development.
• Utilizes appropriate levels of verification and validation when qualifying and implementing new tools or processes.
• Manages tasks and projects to successful completion and attainment of goals.
• Generates SOPs/work instructions and conducts training of personnel in the methods and techniques used.
• Utilizes Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality and reliability improvement techniques in ongoing work and participates in related projects.

What do you need to Succeed:

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in an engineering discipline including Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related technical field
• Three to five years of experience in R&D as coating process engineer covering all aspects of the coating process.
