Job Summary: This job entails the design of innovative, “state of the art”, power design solutions for Radar and Signal Processing systems. The role will include the design capture from a basic set of requirements, through performance simulation, schematic capture, design reviews, printed circuit board layout, fabrication and assembly, Initial assembly bring up, design verification testing, and next higher assembly integration.   Major Responsibilities/Activities Statements:

  • Devise new approaches to technical problems in the development of DoD products
  • Application of sound engineering principles to the design of components and systems using applicable standards and specifications
  • Works closely with other engineering disciplines in defining key power requirements and the subsequent item specification creation and design capture of power solutions
  • Design of complex multilayer printed circuit boards
  • Power design applications support in the area of embedded processors, microcontrollers, FPGAs, RF LNAs, PAs, Mixers and other circuit applications as needed
  • Design capture of power solutions; from host power to bus / working voltages / point of load regulation on RF, Digital and other system Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs)
  • Electrical design tasks which include requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, circuit analysis and simulation, schematic capture, and printed circuit board layout, fab and assembly support, bring up and design verification testing for power solutions
  • Develop test plans and procedures for power solutions
  • Perform test and evaluation of power solutions at functional, circuit cards assemblies, and systems
  • Responsible for compliance to schedule, cost, and technical responsibilities for assigned power solutions at the assembly, subsystem and system level
  • Perform detailed technical analyses, create test, and analysis reports
  • Generate and present design documentation to stakeholders and customers in design reviews and technical interchange meetings
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design team reviews and meetings
  • Learn and follow company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

ob Requirements: Required Experience:

  • 7 to 10 years of design engineering experience in power electronics
  • Design experience includes: specification capture, circuit design analyses/simulations, presentation of preliminary and critical design review to (peers, program team and customer representatives); schematic capture, pcb layout, assembly bring up, design verification testing and integration at the next higher assembly of (power circuits, circuit card assemblies and unique power applications) in a next higher assembly or system
  • Working knowledge in the selection of power supply components using reliability derating
  • Working knowledge of circuit simulation tools such as SPICE or similar tools
  • Product design experience from concept to production
  • Experience working in a fast paced design engineering environment where both direct individual tasking, as well as working with program team members is crucial
  • Experience in performing assignments independently with instructions as to the general results expected

 Required Skills:

  • Excellent problem solving, detailed analysis, and analytical capability skills
  • Skilled performing design trade studies, comparing functionality, quality, manufacturability and cost of design solutions
  • Skilled in the use of lab test equipment operation & application in the development of power solutions
  • Capable of working independently in a lab environment.
  • Skilled in schematic entry and board layout using tools such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and PADS
  • Outstanding work ethic and commitment to organizational success
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation) and proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must possess strong technical aptitude, communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally within the hardware organization and with other engineering disciplines/functions. Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment in technical areas.
  • Self-motivation and a deep level of pride in the design and development of power products

Other Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Existing DoD clearance with current 5-year update
  • Ability to obtain any additional clearances as required

 Desired:

  • Strong skill set in the simulation of power architectures and power applications
  • Experience in the design of electronics for defense or avionics applications
  • MATLAB or other programming language experience
  • Experience of capturing power designs into miniaturized packaging
  • Advanced Engineering Degree
