Prepare or review front-end engineering and detailed design for protection and control (P&C) systems, either electro mechanical and/or numerical relays, for both medium and high voltage indoor/outdoor power substations and transmission lines, primarily for electric utility companies.
Draft system protection requirements design basis or design protection philosophy requirements.
Create/review/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable schedules for both brown and green filed projects.
Prepare scope of works and specifications for procurement and installation of P&C, including selection of relay types, AC/DC systems, cable schedules, and A&I systems.
Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, short circuit, setting calculations, protection coordination studies.
Validate relay logic diagrams, front view label and relay files for the SEL, GE and other similar relays.
Ensure conformity and completeness of electrical conceptual and detailed system P&C engineering packages against project requirements and specifications while following prudent engineering practices, and approve engineering packages to be issued for construction.
Prepare or validate bill of material for procurement and installation of P&C equipment and systems.
Provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning of P&C systems, respond to requests for information, solve site queries, attend site meetings, and perform site inspections.
Follow and comply with Quality Management System processes and standard operating procedures in view to maintain complete and in good standing order project documentation, engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, technical memos, as-built and closeout documentation.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team to prepare or review engineering packages, and coordinate her/his design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers within the team or department.
Works autonomously without direct supervision.
Perform other duties as assigned.
BSCE degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
A Professional Engineer registered (or eligible for registration).
A minimum 10 years of experience required in P&C design.
Solid knowledge and use of IEEE, ANSI, NSEC, NERC or NPCC Standards or Codes, and familiar with North American industry practices.
Working experience or good knowledge of relay setting, SCADA, telecom, HMI systems, RTU/RTAC and SCADA interfacing is required.
Experience on MathCAD, ASPEN, ETAP and other power study software.
Experience with development of relay logic diagrams, settings and testing would be an asset.
Solid knowledge of modern power system, power system protection and relay technologies.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word) required, and use of AutoCAD would be an asset.
Excellent verbal, written communication skills required.
