Responsible for creating and maintaining optimization, statistical, and simulation models to support process improvement and network planning on an international scale across the KCS US and Mexico railroad networks. Responsibilities include data acquisition, data analysis, forecasting, process mapping, and process analysis using various analytical and statistical tools. The position is expected to be able to independently work on, produce, and update various models and analyses to support ongoing process improvement and network planning activities. This position will also be expected to lead and advise on various operations research projects involving optimization and mathematical modeling (machine learning, mixed integer programming, etc).
Manages the process improvement modeling and simulation efforts internationally across the KCS US and Mexico railroad networks.
Manages the creation and presentation of KCS' process and simulation models supporting the process improvement, network, and capacity planning efforts
Develops simulation models for key resources (including track infrastructure, trains, locomotives, crews and yards/terminals) based on statistical analysis and process mapping
Identifies and presents opportunities derived from modeling activitives
Independently identifies and obtains data needed for modeling and analytical efforts
Identifies and presents areas of opportunity for operation reasearch activities to capitialize on process improvement projects
Develops statistical models to facilitate data based decision-making
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Math, Business, or related quantitative discipline
5 years’ experience in analytics, simulation, modeling and/or operations research
Advanced proficiency in MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, etc. or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with simulation software (Arena, Simio, etc)
Experience with statistical software packages (Python & R preferred, Minitab, SAS, etc)
Master degree in Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Business or related quantitative discipline
5 years railroad operations experience
5 years’ experience with the use of statistics to address business opportunities
5 years’ experience with the application of operations research to create mathmatical models to address business opportunities
Bilingual in Spanish
