Job Overview

TE Connectivity (TE) has an opportunity for an Automation Manufacturing Technology (AMT) Automation professional with strong machine design and team working capabilities in supporting global integrated automation platforms in a leading electrical component manufacturing company. The individual shall become an expert in machine design project management that utilize standard platforms.


This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a high performing organization who reports to the Sr. Manager of Automation Manufacturing Technology, as part of the corporate Global Operations team.  This position will have the responsibility for supporting various automation solutions deployed to TE manufacturing sites worldwide.


The Automation Project Engineer will work to develop new machine, processes and automation concepts as part of a multi-functional Machine Design & Build Team.  The candidate will have responsibility for project management and technical oversight of automation projects.  The Automation Project Engineer will oversee everything from initial concept through commissioning the automation into a manufacturing site.

Responsibilities for in-house machine build projects include:

  1. Interfacing with customers to collect voice of the customer and project requirements for new automation projects.
  2. Creating and developing estimates on new proposal requests.
  3. Coordinating activities and project plans for a multi-functional project team.
  4. Overseeing the stage gate project process for responsible projects.
  5. Providing technical oversight to mechanical, electrical, machine controls and machine build.
  6. Tracking and monitoring project costs and schedules within allotted time and budget.
  7. Assessing product design for design for automation (DFA).
  8. Reporting on status of automation projects.
  9. Utilize mechanical modeling techniques such as FEA and cam modeling software.
  10. Interface constantly with customers and stakeholders to effectively communicate project status.
  11. Provide resource planning estimates for project assignments.
  12. Work with AMT Shop personnel to provide information, answer questions and facilitate construction or integration.
  13. Oversee tooling and machine builds and designs with internal and external shops.
  14. Participating in risk assessments and design safety systems to meet TE specifications.
  15. Select machine servo, robots and mechanical and electromechanical components which are properly sized to meet system requirements.
  16. Oversee conditioning, optimization and commissioning of equipment until handed over to customer.


Responsibilities for partner based machine build projects include:

  1. Oversee and coordinate concept development for machine.
  2. Creating and developing estimates on new proposal requests.
  3. Oversee and coordinate specification creation, release to partner and quote technical evaluation.
  4. Oversee mechanical and electrical design details of project to ensure standards are met.
  5. Provide oversight to partner throughout design, buyoff, conditioning and installation.
  6. Establish and execute mechanical test plan for equipment.
  7. Integrate and condition equipment with other equipment if needed.
