The Senior Manager, Research Support leads the research program teams to ensure successful system implementation and upgrades. Specifically, the Senior Manager, Research Support oversees the day-to-day operations and resources of research staff and supports programs for their growth and development.


CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


Conducts meetings with research staff and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.


Provides technical support and resolves operational problems.


Oversees department budget and identifies areas of opportunity for cost reduction.


Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts.


Recruits and trains research staff and prepares performance reports and disciplinary recommendations for the leadership team.


Analyzes reports, data briefs, and auxiliary publications for new topic modules.


Defines and produces indicators for a data visualization platform.


Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions


This position will provide administrative management support to strengthen the research operations of the Department of Pediatrics. This position will assist with the development and review of clinical research SOP's, conduct staff meeting, and ensure all research staff members comply and adhere with institutional, local, state, and federal health regulations/ requirements by providing staff training. The Sr. Manager Research Support will work with faculty, trainees, staff, and external partners to facilitate the strategic development of a pediatric research portfolio across the continuum of translational research -from bench to curb.


  • Manages all compliance issues related to the various research grants and contracts providing information on the requirements and deadlines for deliverables and work performed.
  • Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of an effective and ongoing research program to improve the adherence to research policies and procedures
  • Establishes laboratory policies and Standard Operating Protocols; develops and maintains research standards of the lab, as well as develop Standard Operating Protocols for IRB-related studies.
  • Participates and executes strategic plan to implement standardization of protocols for both clinical and bench research activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective interaction with research faculty and staff in order to facilitate the Pediatrics Clinical Research Center needs and act as a resource for all clinical research Pediatrics staff.
  • Conducts meetings with the research staff, and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner according to established guidelines.
  • Responsible for support of various research programs and solving any problems as they arise.
  • Assist in grant proposals, as well as oversee budget and laboratory purchases.
  • Monitors and ensures good data acquisition and data management processes.
  • Assists in publications and manuscript preparation.
  • Interviews perspective employees seeking employment within the department and provides recommendation to Pl.
  • Responsible for overseeing new IRB and animals protocols submitted under the department, including annual protocol renewals, to ensure compliance with CITI, HSRO, and IACUC.
  • Accountable for maintaining excellent communication with the HSRO/IRB, which includes responding to reviewers, submitting amendments and annual updates, as well as tracking reportable events, while meeting deadlines set forth by the HSRO.
  • Attend training and educational events set forth by the HSRO/IRB in order to remain in compliance and up-to- date.
  • Liaise with other institutions including collaborations, as well as establishing new collaborations with other departments within University of Miami
  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of computers are essential.
