Tesla is looking for an exceptional Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering who will make an impact on the world as part of theteam engineering Tesla’s innovative Solar Roof Products. The selected candidate will lead a team of process, equipment and manufacturing engineers in the ramp of Tesla's second Gigafactory in Buffalo, NY.
Lead a world class engineering team of process, equipment and manufacturing engineers.
Team with Facilities Engineering to install and qualify equipment necessary to ramp the Gigafactory2 facility to production targets.
Match process and product performance targets of Tesla’s pilot module fab in Fremont, CA using a “copy smart” philosophy on equipment and process.
Guide and mentor the process engineers to fine-tune/optimize existing processes associated with POR Solar Roof module process as specified in Tesla’s pilot module fab.
Ensure all equipment and automation related to Solar Roof module assembly is effectively transferred and able to meet required equipment and automation specifications set in Tesla’s pilot module fab.
Lead analysis of Equipment and Automation yield, uptime and performance issues and maintain and update Failure Mode & Effects Analysis provided by Tesla’s pilot module fab with lessons learned.
Define disciplined Statistical Process Control methodology/plan and for inline/offline monitoring of module process specs and equipment specs.
Work with Gigafactory2 module Operations team to define and revise the equipment Preventive Maintenance as well as the process Standard Operating Procedure.
Align with Tesla’s pilot module fab Change and Control Board to ensure strict standards for module process, fab equipment/automation, and standard operating procedure and yield control protocols.
Constant collaboration and alignment with Tesla’s pilot module fab Module Engineering, Equipment/Automation teams to ensure equipment KPIs and module performance are satisfied.
Collaborate and Lead with Operations team to ramp the Solar Roof module fab to >1GW full capacity at world class performance, cost per watt and quality.
Ability to relocate to Buffalo, NY if not already residing there.Requirements
M.S. or PhD in a related technical field (Electrical Engineering, Material science, Physics, Chemistry, etc.) or evidence of exceptional ability.
8+ years of manufacturing experience in a high volume, highly automated advanced manufacturing facility
5+ years of project management and cross functional leadership experience.
Experience at a solar cell and/or module facility is a plus.
Understand cost of ownership for various solar module processes/materials with proven record of effective cost reduction.
Experience in technology transfer methodology and procedures.
Detail-oriented, resourceful and able to manage shifting priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to positively and effectively interact with internal and external customers.
Regular, reliable and predictable performance required.
Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
After relocation to Buffalo, availability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
