We are currently looking to fill a senior engineering position focused in laser welding of metals with a person that is passionate about advancing laser-processing technologies to benefit manufacturing. This position offers a unique opportunity to support and guide an already strong team as they continue to advance laser welding technology. 

The Senior Laser Welding Engineer coordinates engineering tasks in support of laser-related projects and may serve as principal investigator on projects. Support higher level engineers with research, lab work, or other tasks within the Lasers group. Develops technical or business opportunities and connects the customer with any of the company's broad range of resources.



?   Operation of laser welding equipment/systems, supporting equipment, software, and hardware 

?   Research new manufacturing technologies related to laser-processing, request quotations, select  vendors, issue requisitions, schedule demonstrations, and approve tooling

?   Engage with customers to explore and understand their laser processing requirements

?   Develop strong working relationships with the company's customers to ensure satisfaction and develop new project opportunities

?   Lead research programs by collaborating with project managers, technicians, and engineers across other disciplines in the organization 

?   Stay current with industry trends and technical advancements

?   Actively seek-out various educational and training opportunities to keep current and demonstrate continuous growth

?   Identifies and analyzes problems, gathers and sorts relevant data, and processes logically to determine preferred solution; applies knowledge and experience to the pursuit and execution of results that solve problems for the client

?   Write clear, concise, and accurate technical reports or documents for customers and/or internal audience

?   Effectively delivers oral presentations meant to inform or persuade both internal (peer and manager) and external (client) audiences

?   Offer input on the focus of the company's IRD funding and may develop proposals that require approval

?   Follow-up and interact with customers on reactive sales transactions. Initiate the reactive sales process without guidance

?   Interact with customer via ?inquiry? process to explore sales opportunities



?   Knowledge and expertise in laser welding using one micron solid-state lasers (e.g. IPG Laser)

?   Understanding of optical systems and proficiency in experimental analysis

?   Basic metallurgical knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, and nickel based alloys

?   Exercises initiative and creativity within assigned project work

?   Utilizes judgment in communication styles and behaviors; recognizes impact on other team members

?   Exhibits proficient written and verbal communication with customers both internal and external

?   Analyzes and understands impact of individual contribution to project financial performance

?   Proven adaptability and flexibility as a part of team

?   Ability to maintain excellent customer relationships both internal and external

?   Proven success in a team-oriented environment

?   Strong ability to plan and organize tasks

?   A demonstrated passion for laser welding in manufacturing

?   Willingness to travel periodically (10-15%) to customers and conferences



?   B.S. in Welding Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering



?   Seven (7) or more years of experience in laser processing of metals; laser welding of metals using one micron solid-state lasers

?   Metallurgical experience/background in carbon steel, stainless steel, and nickel based alloys preferred
