This job is within the KPWA Health Research Institute, and supports the computing environment used by staff in the department. The mission of the Research Institute is to improve health and health care for everyone through leading-edge research, innovation, and dissemination. In this position you will work closely with business users - researchers - to understand their needs and how they use computing technology to get their work done. Responsibilities include: troubleshooting and support of existing systems, engineering/building new systems, and managing IT-focused projects (upgrades, migrations, other IT change events). The ideal candidate will have gained experience with a variety of IT technologies while working within a research computing environment.
Support complex IT Servers and Systems in a research computing environment. Technical support in IT systems specializing in multiple technology areas (may include Infrastructure Applications , Network, Server Operating Systems, Desktop Operating Systems, Virtualization, Directory Services, E-mail, Disaster Recovery, Security, Antivirus, Storage Management, Print Management, Hardware Management, Mobile Device Management, Application Deployment, PKI, Clustering, Statistical Computing) in a wide variety of technologies (i.e., software and/or hardware). Maintain high degree of awareness about emerging technologies and advise departmental IT management. Provide advice and perform repeatable processes relating to deployment, support and maintenance of all areas of team expertise. Collaborate with enterprise IT in adapting organizational procedures to fit a scientific environment.
Operational Work: Provide troubleshooting support, including on-call, problem resolution and operational maintenance of KPWHRI systems. Provide operational support and maintain operational standards relating to computing technologies. Run reports and monitor systems.
Engineering Work: Responsible for research, design and implementation of systems relating to one or more specific technologies or protocols to include but not limited to: Server Operating Systems, Desktop Operating Systems, Virtualization, Directory Services, E-Mail, Disaster Recovery, Security, Storage Management, Print Management, Hardware Management, Mobile Device Management, Application Deployment, Applications, Network, Clustering and Statistical Computing. Provide documentation and cross train team members on any relevant technologies.
Projects Work: Provide advice and project representation to KPWHRI IT leadership and application owners relating to operating systems, security, application deployment, ordering, equipment standards or any other relevant technology.
Standards and Stewardship Work: Provide guidance and develop standards relating to computing technology for KWPHRI. Perform quality assurance check to ensure adherence to standards and quality services are met. Work with IT Finance and Procurement to facilitate purchase of standard equipment and services to support research computing.
Minimum five (5) years of progressive IT experience to include two (2) years of experience supporting complex environments as well as multiple infrastructure systems or operating systems.
Associate's degree in information technology or related field OR two (2) years of directly related experience.
High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
At time of hire possesses current and up-to-date certification/certificates in two (2) or more industry standard IT-related areas applicable to the position being applied for. (Examples: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Net+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Healthcare+, Avaya, Cisco, Microsoft, Unix, Linux, IBM, Security, Project Management.)
Seven (7) years of experience in a research computing environment.
Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field.
