The Senior IT Manager is responsible for planning, directing and overseeing the daily operations and activities of a specific segment of the IT Department. Employees in this job classification provide strategic conceptualization by researching, designing, or enhancing existing technologies, hardware or software needs for Company-wide projects and initiatives.


1. Responsible for directing technical operations in assigned function.

a. Plans, directs and controls the daily activities of assigned function in order to ensure maximum department efficiency.

b. Develops strong understanding of designated IT and assigned business unit goals, priorities and technology needs through regular interaction with senior leadership.

c. Collaborates with IT department management team to ensure consistency and accuracy of delivery on daily production cycles. Ensures business unit needs are appropriately represented within the IT organization.

d. Develops, implements and optimizes the policies, programs and procedures of the assigned function in conjunction with IT director.

e. Monitors technology initiatives that may result in potential resource conflicts. Proactively anticipates conflicts, communicates issues and recommends solutions.

f. Responds to inquiries from corporate and store employees, management and vendors; answers questions, provides documentation, interprets policies, resolves complex problems and discrepancies.

2. Responsible for management planning and budgeting in assigned function.

a. Participates in long-range planning and technical direction for the department and company. May be responsible for procedural support to the IT Governance Committee.

b. Assists in developing and managing budget of assigned area.

c. Evaluates and institutes cost-effective programs within the department.

3. Responsible for providing strategic planning for department and Company.

a. Designs strategic plan for implementing new or enhanced technologies or special projects that are in alignment with organizational priorities.

b. Serves as a consultant to senior management educating the business on available technology, recommends improvements, efficiencies and effective system solutions.

c. Conducts extensive research on new/enhanced product, hardware, software, systems technology or special project.

d. Recommends project prioritization. Tracks current and planned technology initiatives, in cooperation with Project Management Office, and ensures ongoing communication with business unit stakeholders regarding project status.

e. Meets with outside vendors and receives a variety of bids on products, technology or services.

f. Creates a comprehensive summary of research/vendor bids. Recommends the most cost efficient solution that matches the Company's desired outcome.

4. Responsible for managing the activities and performance of assigned staff.

a. Manages assigned staff to include: hiring, training and development, goal setting, performance evaluation, counseling and discipline.

b. Understands and communicates the Company vision and strategic objectives to assigned team members.

c. Communicates regularly and clearly with team in regard to IT plans, policies, procedures, roadmaps, and other technology initiatives.

5. Maintains current knowledge of retail grocery or IT industry.

a. Attends seminars, participates in industry organizations and stays current of new industry technology, development and trends.

b. Explores new or improved technology or equipment and makes recommendations to senior management.

6. Serves as department contact for store management, corporate management and vendors.

a. Maintains a strong understanding of IT processes and procedures and applies this knowledge to ensure that designated business unit or vendor follows all necessary steps and experiences seamless interaction with the IT organization.

b. Develops relationships with management and vendors to serve as main contact for problem resolution, requests and inquiries.

c. May be required to lead pre-project business solution discovery for assigned business unit by gathering IT requirements, questioning and challenging when necessary, and providing options and cost-benefit analysis.

d. Evaluates existing products, investigates sources of new equipment and services and negotiates the best value for procurement.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus more than eight (8) years of progressive advancement within the information technology area and more than two (2) years experience in leading or supervising others or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA degree may be preferred if applicable to assigned function (e.g. PMO, Business Development, Business Analysis).

  • Must have experience on SAP ECC 6.0
  • At least 5 years of SAP experience in configuring SAP FI (GL, AP, AR), CO, and BPC modules
  • Experience in integration of FI with CO, MM, and BW modules.
  • Provides SAP solution options and best practice recommendations.
  • Provides functional leadership and guidance to project teams.
  • Participates in evaluation of new ERP related functionality or software.
  • Closely engages with functional and business teams to align IT and business strategies.
  • Contributes to the overall planning of ERP projects by recommending approaches.
  • Influences the implementation of solutions, identifying resources and developing timelines.
  • Effectively communicates risks, issues and alternative options.
  • Lead a team of SAP business analysts, supporting Finance and Retail portions of the business.
  • Develops and fosters collaborative working relationships with the business, project managers and IT team members.
  • Grocery Retail experience a plus.


  • Extensive knowledge of information systems practices, policies and programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer process architecture and design.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements of designated business specialty area supported.
  • Strong knowledge of retail operations.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies.
