The Sr. Human Resources Generalist serves as a strategic business partner to all levels of the organization on performance management, benefits management, vendor relationships, employee relations, coaching, training and development, HR support on policies and programs. The incumbent will manage the full scope of performance management process, 401(k) and associate benefits programs interpretation, communication strategies, education programs, and plan designs. They will conduct research, data analysis, forecasting, trends and financial metrics. They will partner with key stakeholders in developing annual plan designs based on cost utilization, analysis and forecasting while ensuring HR is legally compliant with all plans.
The Sr. Human Resources Generalist will support the HR Manager and Director of Human Resources and OD in key HR functions by being fully engaged in HR projects by sharing area of expertise and expanding knowledge of other areas of discipline. This role will align and model the High Performance Culture and CX Principles as well as HR Guiding Values by providing quality service to Health New England’s internal and external customers while demonstrating a sense of urgency to meet customer needs.
Performance Management 35%
Responsible for the performance management process. Design annual talent calendar that reflects the full cycle of the performance plan process and ensure legal and compliance requirements are met. This includes, but not limited to, establishing a company philosophy of a continuous cycle of performance management. Partner with leaders on development plans, setting performance goals and initiatives that link to corporate objectives/priorities. Advise on incentivizing excellence through recognition programs, defining behavioral expectations through competencies, and overseeing the talent review process to ensure alignment with the annual budget process. Partner with the Director of HR and OD, and HR Manager on succession planning.
Design, develop and educate leaders and associates on the performance management process through training and communication on the philosophy, technical aspects of navigating the system, provide coaching to strengthen two-way communication between leader and associate, and create development opportunities (e.g., high-touch career development programs). Ensure performance management process is aligned with organizational direction and critical success factors that support key business initiatives. Responsible for tracking and providing metrics.
Provide direction on regular performance discussions that utilize regular coaching and feedback via one-on-ones, quarterly check-ins, annual reviews, and progressive performance counseling plans. Ensure proper documentation aligns with legal requirements.
Benefits Management and Vendor Relations 25%
Serve as Plan Administrator and manage Health New England’s 401(k) plan; ensure plan compliance with laws and regulations.
Partner with 401(k) auditors to oversee plan testing and audits, ensure timely and accurate review of retirement plan and filings of required data. Provide requested data in a timely manner for 401(k) discrimination testing.
Serve on Baystate’s RAC meetings and represent Health New England. Ensure HR Manager and Director of HR and OD remains current on all changes and decisions.
Manage vendor relations. Negotiate agreements with vendors to achieve improved financial savings and excellent customer service.
Oversee contract renewals and service level agreements.
Serve as the escalation resource to problem solve and mediate through challenges and opportunities they arise with vendors.
Research vendors and provide recommendations for plan changes, eliminations, and additions that provide cost effective program, benefits, and services to the organization.
Partner with benefit brokers on health program initiatives to leverage opportunities to reduce costs of associate benefits.
Perform trend analysis on benefit utilization, forecast future changes and provide recommendations based on analysis.
Partner with key stakeholders to conduct annual benefit modeling by examining plan designs and benefit cost changes. Prepare and deliver proposal to the Director or HR/OD and ELT on annual cost effective plan design.
Manage all associate benefit plans, including voluntary and company provided programs.
Develop benefit communications to educate associates on plans, utilization and managing costs. Solicit feedback on satisfaction with benefit options.
Maintain compliance with state and federal benefit laws and regulations. Ensure timely filings of all benefit plans and testing.
Inform Health New England associate members and senior leadership on regulatory and company changes relative to benefits.
Employee Relations and Coaching 20%
Promote positive employee relations within the context of the HNE coaching culture, conduct internal investigations when appropriate. Resolve complex employee relation issues and involuntary terminations, as appropriate. Drive and support performance measurements, improvement process and productivity initiatives that align with accountability, ownership, HPC and CX principles.
Manage sensitive associate issues and concerns; provide recommendations and appropriate actions that align with local, state, federal laws and HNE policies.
Advise and facilitate in the interpretation of company policies and procedures by leveraging HR expertise in resolving conflicts, communication, disciplinary and policy issues.
Serve as a coach and trusted business adviser to influence business leaders in areas of employee relations, performance management,
change management, and cultural management as ways to minimize employee relation issues and handle issues early.
Ensure proper documentation is prepared and maintained.
Leverage workforce data and partner with leadership and members of the HR team to determine critical workforce needs aligned with HNE’s strategic goals and priorities to identify categories for coaching leaders.
Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement strategic initiatives resulting in continuous improvement, enhanced associate engagement, improved working relationships, reinforcement of HPC and CX principles.
Training and Development 15%
Create learning content through best practice research by providing education through multiple delivery channels that supports on-site and remote associates.
Partner with HR and business leaders to improve talent development efforts by serving as a training and development consultant and content expert.
Provide change management support to ensure effective implementation, including but not limited to design/facilitation, action planning, metrics and reporting.
Build and facilitate in-person workshops, applying adult learning theories to design and deliver on a variety of topics.
Conduct leadership training, individual coaching, and drive the Customer Experience (CX) and High Performance Culture (HPC) of organizational effectiveness through HNE. Spot trends and issues regarding the workforce skill needs for the future and advise others appropriately.
HR Support and Projects 5%
Support key HR initiatives.
Support employee engagement survey process, data analysis, presentation building, communication, and action planning initiatives with leaders.
Bachelor Degree in Human Resources or related field with 6 – 8 years’ experience as a human resources generalist/consultant with strong skill set in employee relations, coaching, performance management, training and development, benefit administration, and vendor relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
