General Description

  • As part of the Facilities Engineering Design Transfer team, the Sr Project Engineer position provides services to internal customers daily. Service requests originate from engineers, project managers, planners, area owners and contractors. The primary focus of the Sr Project Engineer position is to provide accurate and timely support with emphasis on proactive communication between customers and the Facilities Engineering department. This includes support for our San Diego headquarters and global portfolio. The secondary focus is on improving the state of Illumina drawings and BIM utilization to support engineering, compliance and maintenance projects.
  • Responsibilities

  • Partner with Compliance and other internal customers to ensure Facility Change Control (FCC) and related projects are documented to standards.
  • Perform facility validation work, including design qualification, test execution and report writing.
  • Work with internal customers and outside vendors to ensure current reference documents are utilized for projects, properly revised and ultimately onboarded in our system.
  • Define documentation needs and develop Turn Over Package checklists for GREC and Facility Engineering projects.
  • Partner with Engineers to develop and update Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and other drawings through red-line reconciliation and field verification.
  • Maintain / lead department standards development for drawing processes and record management.
  • Perform drawing and BIM revisions of current building floor plans, implement department standards and cleanup drawing inaccuracies.
  • Work with department personnel to define, update and catalog drawings and Turn over Package documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, good communication skill; Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • This position requires basic AutoCAD knowledge with 1-2 years experience in a 2D environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Revit is required, as well.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks with accurate and timely completion of projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and an eye on detail are essential.
  • The individual will need to be a team player with the ability to be self-sufficient and execute projects with minimal direction.
  • Knowledge in the areas of facility compliance and validation will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience with documentation generation, test execution and report writing are highly desired.
  • An understanding of National CAD Standard and AIA standards would be beneficial due to our strategy of working in these formats. Other software skills that are desired to support our department are MSOffice suite, Word, Excel, Visio and Project.
