The position of Supplier Manufacturing Engineer exists within the LORD Corporation's Value Engineering team. This role is intended to provide technical manufacturing engineering support for supplier startup, methods development and the responsibility for NPI machined components drawing/designs. This assignment will be imbedded within and work closely with Product Engineering to reduce cost, enhance designs for manufacturability and insure cost as products transition into production. The group works closely with plant quality, manufacturing and process engineering functions to insure the products production cost assurance targets are met. Working within the LORD A&D Sourcing Group, the Supplier Manufacturing Engineer/Specialist works collaboratively with LORD’s selected strategic suppliers to help them become proficient at new technologies, improve their quality or delivery performance, improve their own supply management systems and to create cost savings that benefit both themselves and LORD. These efforts include the following: Provide and/or facilitate supplier continuous improvement, provide and/or facilitate supplier joint improvement efforts, Provide and/or facilitate supplier cost savings projects, facilitate Program Management of part transition from supplier to supplier This position assesses and develops supplier manufacturing methods and conducts technical transfer to selected suppliers to ensure positive commercial and tactical performance at supplier locations. The Supplier Manufacturing Engineer/Specialist determines supplier capabilities, participates in APQP events to support technical transfer, supports supplier methods reviews, frozen planning for the supply chain. This individual will participate in NPI drawing and will be responsible for the manufacturability of the machine component and ensure that the new designs are dimensioned in accordance with best manufacturing practice. This position must identify any gaps in supplier manufacturing capability to perform LORD requirements and further support the translation of LORD technical drawings and specifications associated with new and legacy products. This role will engage both new and established suppliers and manages the supplier's involvement during methods establishment during prototype and production to achieve cost delivery and quality objectives.
Bachelor's degree in technical field or equivalent experience
5-8 years plant manufacturing experience in aerospace industry and commodities such as machining, casting, forgings, stampings, programing, inspection/metrology
Skilled/expert level in manufacturing engineering skills, precision machining, APQP, Lean manufacturing and Frozen planning
Product Design Knowledge and Experience
Master’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline, MBA or similar
