Oversees the electrical system design development and implementation of projects. Acts as the leading individual contributor and coordinator for design problem solving. Specific activities include the following: preparation of cost estimates and value engineering preparation of design and construction plans oversight of al electrical system concepts and design specification of equipment required to complete the project ensures design compliance with various regulatory codes. Performs necessary engineering calculations to support system design and equipment selection. Calculations should include cost analysis electrical and energy evaluations. Works with project manager and architect in the development of construction documents.

Monitors the development of the project assuring that the target dates are met and expenditures are within the budget. Regularly reports to the Director and makes recommendations for improvements or alternatives to maximize energy usage increase system efficiency and maximize the budget. Develops and implements on an on-going basis energy conservation projects for the existing facilities.

Designs electrical systems for additions alternations or completely new systems such as the fire alarm system electrical power riser distribution new lighting systems etc.

Estimates costs of electrical projects designs electrical systems using CAD system and works with Architects. Mechanical Engineers Project Managers and Contractors to integrate designs into existing facilities and to finalize plans and specifications for project; seeks outside bids from electrical contractors coordinates electrical work done by outside contractors.

Provides direction to project designers and electrical engineers construction field personnel and performs other related duties as requested. Participates with Director providing technical support and guidance in the training of staff and outside contractors and consultants.

Ensures the production of construction documents is accurate and complete and reviews drawings until in accordance with client needs.

Obtains approvals from all local state and federal agencies for electrical work. Participates in the commissioning of projects.

Inspects all installations and repair projects and participates in acceptance testing review test reports before final payments for services are made.

Reviews specification of proposed major equipment purchases to determine compliance with electrical safety requirements as well as compatibility with current systems.

Develops and implements on an on-going basis energy conservation projects for the existing facilities.

Participates in the development of electrical and procedures for the department by providing in put as requested from the Senior Vice president Shared Services.


Other information:

Complete post-undergraduate education leading to a Masters Degree in engineering or related field of study.

Professional engineer license preferred.

Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) database development analysis and reporting.

An understanding of the analysis required to manage facilities projects from conceptualization through implementation consistent with defined objectives and approved budgets.

A broad based professional level of knowledge in order to prepare specifications to evaluate and approve those prepared by others and to provide professional guidance and direction to same.

The interpersonal skills to interface effectively with outside Contractors Engineers Utility Company Architects as well as hospital executives managers and staff.

The analytical ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in complex electrical systems to plan design and estimate large and complex mechanical installations.

Year to year performance improvements of department.

Resource productivity.

Demonstrated expertise in microcomputers and software in networked environments including database spreadsheets word processing and graphics.


Five years progressively more responsible related experience preferably in a healthcare environment.

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.
