Splunk IT is looking for a dynamic team member to play a pivotal role in our Network Engineering team. We are responsible for operating the Splunk corporate, development, and production infrastructure within our cloud and data center environments. Our focus is on demonstrating and using best of breed security products, reducing risk, and maintaining a secure and performant infrastructure. This critical team is small but professional. We work hard, have fun, and are deeply passionate about network stability and security.

You will serve as a key member of this team by supporting ongoing security engineering, security tools, policy implementation, and monitoring. You will partner closely with the Global Security team to evaluate and mitigate risks, while aligning on strategies. You will be highly inspired to constantly review and refresh the technology, with a superb opportunity to innovate within Splunk’s rapid-paced development environment.

Responsibilities: I want to and can do that

  • Implementation of network security policy utilizing Palo Alto Networks next generation firewalls
  • You can implement, upgrade and monitor various network security devices/software/services
  • Implement, upgrade and monitor network intelligence tools like visibility switches, netflow, and packet capture
  • Benefit from Splunk core and security products for network monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Assist the SOC team in the creation of monitoring and detection solutions using Splunk products
  • Assess and mitigate network security threats and risks, validate network security requirements, validate compliance, and perform network certification
  • You will act as liaison with other teams and business units to support ongoing network security operations and maintenance
  • Collaborate with third-party support and service vendors to ensure that the network stays operational

Requirements: I’ve already done that or have that

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • 8+ years network engineering or information security experience focused on network security
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills (packet capture and network forensics a strong plus)
  • Security engineering experience, including implementing IPSec VPN, intrusion detection, firewall policy, virtualization security, SIEM tools and log management
  • Demonstrable experience with network security technologies including firewalls, IDS/IPS systems
  • Appropriately self-directed, with the flexibility to work alone or in teams, with minimal oversight, driving positive results in difficult circumstances while maintaining attention to detail
  • You thrive in a work place where you can efficiently lead and deliver on multiple tasks
  • You have the ability to effectively engage and communicate as directed with a variety of audiences both technical and non-technical staff
  • You are able to explain complex systems and technical topics to others who may have minimal technical knowledge using oral, written and visual presentations
  • You love cultivating and building a reciprocal working relationship with operational and business partners

Nice to haves:

  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE), 6 or newer
  • Network forensics experience
  • Certifications such as GNFA, CCIE, CompTIA Network+
