We are looking for a strong senior leader in the role of Sr. Director Technology Engineering and Operations Architecture which includes direct responsibility for, or oversight of the following:

  • Lead architecture design for a "Cloud First, Data Once" technology strategy.
  • Partner with Chief Security Officer, Head of IT Engineering and Operations, Sr. Director of Global Services Governance on strategy
  • Accountable for direction, performance, and ongoing health of the Technology architecture and design processes.
  • Engage and influence senior SVB technology architects, engineer, and security practitioners on technical topics and SVB Architectural Strategy as needed
  • Lead a team of architects in defining, maintaining and evolving SVB's Architecture Vision in alignment with SVB's business goals and objectives
  • Gain alignment with CIO and key stakeholders on SVB's Architecture Vision, Priorities and Multi-Year Plans
  • Partner with IT Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Platform Services, Networking, End User Services and Security Teams to translate architecture priorities and multi-year plans into quarterly plans
  • Partner with stakeholders within and across multiple engineering teams to execute quarterly plans balancing architectural and product priorities
  • Integrate agile architectural practices into existing agile practices
  • Establish, maintain and evolve SVB's Lean Architectural Practices
  • Build and maintain a high performing cross functional Architecture Community made up of talented architects and engineering professionals
  • Partner with senior engineering leaders and business leaders to influence organizational and structural change
  • Inspire innovation and deliver quality at speed across offerings and platforms
  • Lead through ambiguity and conflict make tough calls to eventually achieve desired outcomes

The Sr. Director Technology Engineering and Operations Architecture leads the following areas which require a working, peripheral knowledge to provide direction, leadership and aggregation of their deliverables into a cohesive enterprise/solutions architecture. Individuals accountable for these areas either report directly to the CA or a dotted line from other business units. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

Business Architecture

  • Cultivate relationships with business stakeholders
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of strategic business plans
  • Develop and maintain current and future state business architecture
  • Information System & Technology Architecture
  • Design and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated systems
  • Deliver architectural initiatives that drive revenue and improve efficiency in line with business strategy
  • Develop and maintain current and planned state architectural blueprints along with an aspirational architectural road map for the enterprise
  • Develop architectural metrics and reports for the executive team, business and IT management

Architectural Programs & Initiatives

  • Initiate and deliver architectural programs that align IT with business strategy
  • Deliver requisite program documentation including program charters, schedules, requirements documents, specifications, design documents and testing strategies

Architectural Governance

  • Lead the Architectural Review Team (ART) meetings
  • Develop, communicate and deploy Enterprise Architecture Governance processes
  • Develop and communicate enterprise technology standards and policies
  • Review new and existing program/project architecture for compliance with IT standards, policies and architectural plans
  • Ensure that project documentation captures significant architectural decisions and that architectural governance is a fair, consistent and transparent process
  • Identify architectural risks and propose alternatives and solutions

Architecture Processes & Tools

  • Develop, communicate and deploy Enterprise Architecture processes


Skills & Requirements:

  • 15 + years of progressive technology leadership experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in Business, Information and System Architectures
  • Cisco technologies expertise
  • Financial Services industry experience preferred
  • Extensive Infrastructure, Platform, and Software as a service architectural experience
  • Experience with the core financial services applications preferred
  • Proven success creating business-enabling three (3) year technology roadmaps
  • Experience architecting scalable technology solutions that adjust to growing business needs
  • Outstanding collaboration, strong influencing, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively establish strong relationships with executives, senior leaders, and key business partners to drive change agendas
  • Proven strategic thinking skills to solve enterprise and business challenges
  • Drive the enterprise architecture strategy, blueprint and roadmaps to meet evolving demands
  • Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment
  • Experience leading through influence in a large, matrixed, global environment
  • Prior people management responsibilities with senior level team members as direct reports
