Job Description:

The Sr. Director - Client Data Governance is a strategic role that demonstrates Epic's commitment to the management and protection of client data. The Director will be dedicated to managing our clients' data in a way that protects both client and Epiq interests. This leader will devise exceptional tracking and record keeping protocols so that we are always in front of our data storage responsibilities, offering clients options for data disposition, and optimizing revenue generation when appropriate. The Director will be responsible for maintaining clear, regular reporting for Epiq Legal Solutions executives and leaders.

This position is responsible to assert information lifecycle management expertise at a senior level. Accountability for client data will be a key basis of success. Primary tenets of this position are comprehensive knowledge of data volumes, locations and status, overall data governance principles, business acumen, financial stewardship, executive presence, influence with colleagues, consistent client satisfaction; win-win intervention. The role will leverage a wide spectrum of internal resources, build professional relationships and demonstrate a strong sense of priority to data management every day.

The Director will be committed to a strong sense of collaboration and support within Sales and CS Senior leadership teams. This position will report to the SVP of Client Services, will have accountability to Legal and Compliance and will have access to Executive Leaders as needed.

Functional Duties

  • Strategically manage and drive the ILM program for client data
  • Provide global data retention framework
  • Work with Sales, Client Services, Operations, IT and Compliance to identify issues and risks
  • Ensure compliance with and maintenance of appropriate consents, model contracts, information notices
  • Represent our company in clear, concise communications and dealings with clients
  • Collaborate with the Information Security team on policy and governance related issues and concerns
  • Maintain and measure effectiveness of policies, standards and procedures
  • Inform senior management and directors of the country/business of significant data matters that require their attention or action
  • Promote data retention-related knowledge sharing and promulgation of best practices
  • Proactively anticipate and help the business plan for changes in the compliance and regulatory environment relating to data privacy and retention
  • Provide direction and accountability on the resolution of open data issues related to audit and examination findings; report progress to senior management as appropriate
  • Influence senior management on all data privacy and retention-related matters affecting the businesses and be a strategic and proactive partner to the businesses and corporate functions, apprising management of issues, risks, and trends in the business and industry
  • Knowledge and experience in data storage, operations, and technology functions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data structure desired, but not essential; information systems/tools, and related software and data management; enterprise content management, and record-keeping policies and practices in a complex organizational environment
  • Outstanding program management and delivery skills
  • Demonstrated track record of a high level of personal initiative and leadership, and of setting and achieving challenging goals
  • Must be able to drive into details and abstract the detail for executive communication
  • Must be able to work effectively and build strong relationships with teams throughout the organization


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Background in enterprise operations, services or IT required including:
  • Experience leading teams in the implementation of Information Lifecycle Governance Technologies
  • Knowledge of Information Lifecycle Governance tools is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to seek out underlying assumptions
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills including ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively
  • Demonstrated strengths in organizational, attention-to-detail, reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Legal industry experience is a plus
  • Independent, organized, self-motivated and a team player
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with a fine attention to detail
  • Some experience in a client facing, consultancy environment
  • Knowledge of information security, risk management and corporate governance
  • Client experience on GDPR, privacy or security related projects preferred
  • Experience (or at least knowledge) of other information-related frameworks, standards, codes and methodologies
  • Experience of handling data mapping
