JOB DESCRIPTION:

The position of Sr Manager Global Processes and Tools is within the Business Solutions and Services (BSS) division of Abbott Information Technology. BSS is responsible for the planning, delivery, implementation, and ongoing support for all Abbott IT systems and application services. 

Management of IT delivery processes and tools is critical for BSS in order for the organization to achieve its desired service levels and meet customer demand. Utilizing Project Management best practice definition and enforcement the GP&T Sr Manager will ensure that BSS projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the agreed upon scope and functionality.

The GP&T Sr. Manager acts as a subject manager expert in the use of project management tools and assists BSS in the effective use of these tools. The GP&T Sr Manager is an expert in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of performance measures to enable senior leadership to understand process performance, report progress against targets, and proactively manage goal delivery in alignment with the performance expectations of the organization. The Sr Manager has overall responsibility for day to day analysis and reporting of the delivery metrics.

The GP&T Sr Manager plans, manages, coordinates and directs all activities of BSS project management office (PMO).  Primary responsibility is to ensure that the office supports and advances Abbott’s ability to implement organizational strategy through successful, consistent, and predictable delivery of IT projects. This includes development and implementation of strategies, plans and vehicles designed to build project management as a core competency of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

BSS Project Management Office:

  • Coach BSS on all aspects of project management including initiation, planning, execution, control and closure.
  • Assist in continuing to develop and implement standard project management process methods, and provide training of these methods to ensure uniform practices within BSS.
  • Provide project management consultation and mentorship of the various project phases and the deliverables such as: development and execution of the project schedules; baselines; analyzing critical paths; schedule management; resource planning; risk/issue identification and control; project change requests; weekly and monthly status reporting
  • Support BTS Portfolio Management processes and tools including issue analysis, future tool rollouts and end user training and support.
  • Manage the delivery of dashboards and status reports that provide objective measurements of the financial, quality and schedule performance of all projects to enable management to make strategic decisions.
  • Facilitate project governance by managing Gate Council reviews to enforce project management and SLC processes.
  • Host PMO open house sessions.
  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. 
  • Oversee the project risk/issue management processes.
  • Influence at the director level to build a culture of metric accountability across the enterprise.
  • Review Monthly Provider Performance Metric Report. 
  • Generates monthly operational metrics for CIO.
  • Generates bi-weekly go-live report for Sr. Leaders

Required Skillet and Experience

  • > 10 years IT experienceworking within a large / complex IT organization.  Experience supporting multiple business functions / organizations.
  • Experience managing 3rd party suppliers.
  • Strong analytical skills, including demonstrated proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, effective controls and monitoring processes.
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong collaboration and partnering skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms to senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to design and optimize processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action.
  • Experience of indirect management – managing by influence as opposed to positional authority
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Strong understanding of the all phases of software development life cycle and software development methodologies.
  • Ability to work within a diverse, performance based team environment.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead meetings and communicate course of action.
