Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience as an entertainment attorney at a law firm and at a major studio, network, or other company with a sophisticated entertainment practice. Experience must include:
a. A demonstrated track record structuring, drafting, negotiating, and managing entertainment deals of all kinds, particularly sophisticated, innovative deals;
b. A strong understanding of:
i. An entertainment studio practice, including a deep knowledge of business and legal issues that relate to: creating and building brands and franchises; content exploitation across all media and platforms, including those using new formats and technologies; content production, including music, talent, and guilds; co-productions, including international partnerships and tax-based financing incentives; copyright and IP matters, including complex ownership and licensing arrangements; production integration deals; participations, royalties and other payment structures; rights management; clearances; and submissions; and,
ii. How entertainment content relates to the consumer products business, and how technology is deployed to activate brands and distribute content.

Manage deals with risks and the long-term in mind, but without losing sight of the imperative to advance Mattel’s business and close deals – often with challenging deadlines.
c. Strategic Thinker. Identify issues and relevant Mattel stakeholders early – and then creatively solve those issues and work constructively with those stakeholders.
d. Leadership Ability. Excel, and inspire staff to excel, in a culture that fosters and demands accountability, speed, trust, and ethical conduct. Work effectively within a talented, high-performing team of approximately 12+ lawyers, paralegals, and support staff in far-flung time zones around the world.

f. Engaged Practice Management. Proactively manage expectations of clients, business partners, and staff. Also proactively manage deals, administrative functions, outside counsel and issues across offices, time zones, and sub-practice areas. Skillfully juggle constantly changing priorities and sometimes conflicting objectives. Foster a culture that values strong practice administration.
g. Excellent Work Product and Work Ethic. Write and present in a concise, lucid manner – in emails, memos, presentations, and contracts.
h. Great Attitude. Maintain a professional demeanor, in writing and in person, with clients, support staff, management, outside counsel, and business partners. A sense of humor is a plus.

An undergraduate degree and a law degree, with strong academic performance at a highly-rated law school.
