Provides legal services to the Company and its subsidiaries as a practicing lawyer, interpreting laws, rules and regulations and advising Company personnel of legal rights, obligations and privileges. This may include practice in one or more of the following areas: securities and corporate governance, corporate finance, contracts and other commercial transactions, real estate, education, regulation, labor and employment, litigation management, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions and other general legal matters.


  • Provides counsel and guidance on legal implications of matters to senior Company personnel in designated areas of responsibility
  • Determines or assists in determining the source of legal services to be used as situations develop, as well as reconciles and advises as to the Company’s recommended position on legal matters
  • Supervises outside counsel engaged by the Company. Reviews outside counsel billing to assure compliance with Company policy and efficient use of Company resources
  • Reviews, analyzes and comments on the Company’s legal obligations and advises the appropriate function head of the degree of legal risk on matters or issues within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Performs other legal services as necessary
  • Represents the Company as appropriate in its relationship with the legal and business communities by participating in targeted events, conferences and workshops
  • Maintains a professional and technical knowledge by attending legal workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies


Basic Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate or foreign equivalent from an accredited law school required
  • Five (5) years of professional experience as an attorney at a private law firm, corporation, or governmental agency
  • A member in good standing of a Bar of one of the fifty states or the District of Columbia

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking to provide legal counsel and guidance to the Company, as described above
  • Must possess the ability to convey a professional image and effectively represent the Company as appropriate in its relationship with the legal, education, business, and government communities
  • Must be able to communicate complex and technical information to persons with non-legal related backgrounds
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate to Company personnel organizational policies and procedures, as well as federal and state regulations, as described above
  • Must have a working knowledge of personal software packages to prepare correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports
  • Must be self-motivated, well-organized, results oriented and able to manage several projects simultaneously under deadline pressure with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to creatively address and solve problems
  • Must be willing and able to work cooperatively in a team setting
  • This is a regulatory attorney position for a higher education generalist. The successful candidate will ideally have familiarity with federal statutes and regulations regarding higher education, and broad experience advising an institution of higher education in some or all of the following areas: institutional governance and policy, FERPA, Clery Act, Institutional Review Board, and management of regulatory and litigation matters
