As part of the AWS Controls Team, you will work with highly motivated experts and innovators in the data center industry. You will be responsible for innovating, deploying, optimizing, and maintaining the automation systems within the data centers. Automation systems consist of building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS). Using Amazon leadership principles, you will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space.
The ideal candidate will possess a project management, mechanical, electrical or technology background that enables them to undertake the challenges of sophisticated controls platforms and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building controls and automation with the larger objectives of the business.
Key job responsibilities
• Manage scope of Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) for construction of AWS data centers
• Ensure data center controls are deployed in accordance with AWS standards, specifications and scope of work (SOW)
• Review and provide feedback on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design drawings and basis of design (BOD)
• Develop project bill of material (BOM) and scope of work (SOW)
• Manage multiple stakeholder deliverables, requirements and navigate difficult situations
• Work under tight project timelines
• Support and perform inspections, testing, and commissioning of controls systems
• Participate and support Factory Acceptance/Witness Testing activities (FAT/FWT)
• Financially manage both construction and service contracts
• Act in a project sponsor/lead capacity
• Provide vendor management
• Develop scope of work for site improvement projects
• Provide technical assistance and support to internal customers during life cycle of the data center
• Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for data centers control systems
• Manage all un/planned maintenance for data center control systems
• Learn and help design teams develop sequence of operation for mechanical systems
• Participate in a global on-call schedule
• Grow in technical ability by learning a multitude of different automation platforms
• Learn and develop controls drawings and wiring diagrams
• Size controls valves and damper actuators and select controls devices.
• Develop and modify control logic programming and graphical user interfaces
• Work individually and as part of a team to develop new products, support existing products, test and evaluate equipment.
• Travel domestically and internationally to support global AWS projects

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S./B.A. degree in an engineering-based discipline or 10+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Seven (7) years of experience in either design, programming, and/or startup/commissioning
• Seven (7) years of experience in project management/lead role
• Experience with controls in data centers or other critical facilities
• Expert in common controls communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• M.S. degree in an engineering-based discipline or 15+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten (10) years of experience in either design programming, or startup/commissioning.
• Ten (10) years of experience in project management.
• Experience in designing, configuring, programming, installing, or servicing two or more of the following products: Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Rockwell Automation, Ignition, Tridium Niagara, Eaton, ABB, Johnson Controls, APC, or other
• Networking administration experience.
• Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Windows power user skill set including project management software.
• MQTT communication protocol experience.
• Experience managing capital projects ranging from $1M to $10M
