The Role

As the Sr. Consultant, Strategic Planning, you will work directly with and support all duties of the VP, Strategic Planning & Governance role. You will assist with & drive the oversight of aligning the strategic objectives of the Retirement Plan Services (RPS) organization while managing day-to-day Governance activities. You will also directly assist with and drive the responsibility for directing a structure across the RPS organization & governance teams that focuses on prioritization, effective communication and strong partnerships. This includes intake/prioritization/management of all RPS enhancements as well as managing direct report in support of enhancement process, developing content and creating visually depicting presentations for senior leadership and ad hoc strategic assignments. 


Strategic Agility

  • Assures the adherence to processes for financial rationalization, capacity planning, leadership approval, prioritization, and ongoing status updates throughout the enhancement lifecycle and ensures smooth transition/partnership with PMO
  • Drives to decisions effectively across RPS Senior Leadership Team and Extended Leadership team
  • Consults with cross-functional business teams and provides structure on the development of a high-level strategy into specific and executable plans and initiatives while identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT)
  • Create implementable plans that link strategy to specific actions that foster growth and profitability
  • Ensures the business is executing upon the portfolio of enhancements that best align with the strategic plan and value proposition
  • Prepares and supports the development and communication of key executive level presentations including but not limited to Quarterly CEO Business Reviews, Rating Agency Reviews, Board Meetings, Investor/Banking Meeting and Strategic/Business Planning Meetings
  • Supports and contributes to the annual (3-5 year) strategic planning process
  • Develops and provides input into recommendations on key decisions for both short term and long-term strategies
  • Provides subject matter expertise to contribute to the development of actionable plans that reflect & are derived from the most significant strategies of each segment including working across organizational areas
  • Gathers and analyzes more complex information pertaining to but not limited to organizational issues including cultural, structural, business process or organizational alignment as they relate to strategies
  • Provides expertise on the industry environment and enlists resources within LFG and outside the company to identify risks and opportunities
  • Directs and collaborates with a cross-functional team to structure, shape and provide overall direction on strategic plans
  • Analyzes more complex information and translates findings into meaningful insights, integrating relevant business knowledge
  • Researches and analyzes our space to identify business growth opportunities
  • Partners with the business to establish metrics for objectives


  • Directs and evaluates individual/team performance and takes appropriate action to meet and/or exceed performance standards
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained
  • Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent

Relationship Management

  • With the ability to influence, partners with internal stakeholders across the RPS organization and RPS Governance Teams (inclusive of all functional teams as well as Distribution, HR, Legal, PMO/IT) to ensure strategic actions and decisions are timely while enabling the organization and leadership to operate in an organized, integrated and effective fashion
  • Builds relationships and directly interacts across all levels of RPS organization including senior leadership
  • Partners with and directs external consultants
  • Promotes execution with a strong sense of urgency and a focus on results
  • Once goals have been defined inspires and influences these across the organization to achieve them
  • Communicates and generates support for recommendations among business leaders and key stakeholders

  • Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives

  • Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)


  • 5+ Years Strategic planning experience in the financial services that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of the position
  • Previous experience in strategic planning, project management or marketing/creating design highly desirable
  • Prior experience in retirement plans preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret both internal and external documents such as general media/publications, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures
  • Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations
  • Apply concepts such as probability, statistics, modeling, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions
  • Works with mathematical concepts such as averages and/or variances
  • Ability to analyze complex information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
