Job Description

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this role is to partner with Legal Department leadership as a subject matter expert regarding legal analytics and reporting. This is accomplished by creating metrics and KPIs aligned to the General Counsel’s key objectives and strategic plan that provide a means to monitor the execution of the fiscal strategy against stated goals as well as measure overall department effectiveness and efficiency.

The successful Legal Data Analyst candidate must have a strong working knowledge of data visualizations, data analytics and data base structures. Including an expertise in Microsoft transact-SQL, python and/or other data/analytics-oriented scripting languages. Proficient in data visualization environments such as PowerBI or Tableau along with a working knowledge of how to publish the visualizations produced by these environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates and Maintains Executive Dashboard of KPIs utilizing the Microsoft Power BI platform.
  • Prepares data visualizations from legal matter workflow data.
  • Creates Data models to produce root cause analysis and actionable insights based on financial and nonfinancial data to functional partners and business units.
  • Provides analytical support for law firm rate negotiations and Alternative Fee Arrangements.
  • Extracts, analyzes and interprets data from various systems to support decision making.
  • Compiles data needed to perform root cause analysis and financial modeling.
  • Act as system admin for Legal Matter Management systems.
  • Maintains data quality in the Legal Matter Management systems.
  • Participates in the selection and implementation of new systems or software integrations.
  • Completes work assignments by applying up-to-date expertise in subject area; leveraging an understanding of policies, data, and resources to support projects or initiatives; collaborating crossfunctionally to solve business problems.
  • Pursues self-development and effective relationships by openly sharing information and knowledge with coworkers and business partners; seeking performance feedback; and adapting to and learning from change.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Data Analytics, Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field
  • 5 years experience in finance or analytical role
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms)
  • Proficient in data visualization environments such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Collaborative work style
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a substantial workload in a fast-paced environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Microsoft transact-SQL, python and/or other data/analytics-oriented scripting languages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with alternative fee cost modeling
  • Strong writing, analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and serve as a Project Leader
