The Scope of the position is to develop innovative solutions for high performance structural adhesive applications. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for formulating and characterizing new adhesive systems such as those commonly used in Aerospace, Automotive, Electronic and other industries. This position is also responsible for technical efforts and developments in line with the business strategy. The individual is expected to play a key role in creating competitive advantages through technical expertise and innovation. The individual would be expected to directly interact with internal and external key players in the business to successfully drive key programs.

In summary, as the Sr. Adhesive Formulation Scientist, you will:

• Develop new high performance adhesive products per business requirements.
• Modify existing adhesive systems in order to improve their performance/cost characteristics.
• Synthesize/modify components used for adhesive compositions.
• Hands-on operation with various rheology and thermal analysis instruments specific to thermoset chemistry.
• Fabrication of specimens and perform mechanical testing of high performance matrix and adhesive systems.
• Conduct scale-up trials for newly developed products.
• Develop intellectual property such as patents, papers, presentation etc. to maintain Huntsman as the technology leader in high performance adhesive industry.
• Support sales and distribution with professional recommendations for specific applications and products
• Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
• Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

Required Qualifications

Education

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or Polymer Science.

Experiences

• Must have 5+ \R&D experience with synthesis and process of polymeric materials.
• Formulation experience in structural adhesive, sealant, coating, composite, or other related areas is a plus.

Skills and Knowledge

• Strong knowledge in material science and polymer chemistry.
• Good deep understanding in structure – property relationship of polymeric materials.
• Good knowledge with adhesives, coatings and composites.
• Hands on experience and excellent interpretation knowledge on analytical equipments/testing equipment such as DSC, DMA, TGA, HPLC, IR , NMR, etc. as well as mechanical testing.
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must have a good level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.

Working environment

• Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals (with proper protective equipment) may occur between 25% and 50% of the time.
• Moderate noise levels are typical for this job.
• Physical demands such as standing or walking may occur up to 60% of the time.
• Lifting requirements of up to 50 lbs may occur less than 5% of the time.
