The Automation Manager of Database Applications will be responsible for the overall design, implementation, and optimization of all database applications that support CBI Beer Division’s Manufacturing Systems.  This individual will be responsible for the entire project life cycle from conception through commissioning.  The manager will be responsible for the planning, execution, and acceptance of all database driven automation projects and all related Application Program Interfaces (APIs). The manager must be a forward thinker who plans for potential future operational changes. The immediate focus area for this manager will be the understanding and documentation of the transactions between CBI’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), Laser Guided Vehicles (LGVs), and Packaging Line Interface software. He/She will work directly with Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEMs) developers to optimize in- application SQL statements as necessary, and establishing best practices. The manager must have prior experience developing database applications and API’s specifically for manufacturing production systems. He / She must understand the transactional relationship between SQL applications and shop floor traditional automation systems (PLC/SCADA).

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Specification Management

  • Manage and prioritize all Beer Division database applications from R&D to implementation
  • Responsible for the timely development and maintenance of all information relating to database applications including project definition, installation & operation standards, specifications and procedures from components to application solutions
  • Translate business requirements into functional requirements that can be submitted for bid
  • Review and understand SQL version enhancements and application techniques

Engineering & Commissioning

  • Develop testing procedures and scripts to be applied during multi-vendor software integration tests
  • Manage the checkout and commissioning of all SQL applications and the end-to-end transactions with all shop floor applications
  • Track all performance or outage events, participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations, and ensure all issues are closed after being addressed with measurable success
  • Seek ways to optimize in-application SQL statements to ensure maximum application performance and availability
  • Profile server resource usage, and optimize and tweak as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical or Computer Science or Computer Information Systems required
  • 5 or more years of industry specific experience
  • Strong proficiency with SQL and skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements
  • Familiar with tools that can aid with profiling server resource usage and optimizing it
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
  • Experience with database application integration for CPG manufacturing processes
  • Experience with developing or applying APIs between databases and shop floor systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Siemens Step 7 / WinCC knowledge is a plus
  • Demonstrates leadership and has experience in managing people
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems, recommending and implementing flexible and creative solutions based on customer needs
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks as projects, ensuring completion to meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail on multiple simultaneous tasks
  • Excellent verbal presentation skills; excellent written communications skills and ability to document system procedures in an understandable format
  • Excellent spreadsheet, project and word-processing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willing to travel for extended periods of time
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus
