Sunshine is prevalent and shorts can be worn almost year round in our area. Tallahassee is known for its rolling hills and numerous canopy roads. The first things most notice when they arrive are the beautiful live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. 

Tallahassee is the state capital, and politics are front and center. It’s also home to many colleges and trade schools, most notably Florida State University and FAMU. Our viewers are college sports fans, especially during football season! In 2015, Tallahassee was awarded the All-American City Award by the National Civic League for the second time. Tallahassee is a fantastic place to workwith plenty to do when you have some days off.

Job Summary: 

WCTV, the dominant #1 station in Tallahassee, is searching for our next digital first SPORTS DIRECTOR. WCTV is in the heart ofSeminole Nation, so you’ll be covering ACC Powerhouse Florida State University. Football is huge here, and so are two SEC Universities up the road. Our viewers want to know about the University of Florida and UGA; there’s also Florida A&M University and Valdosta State closer to home. By the way, you’ll dominate Friday nights, as high school football coverage is just as big. We cover 18+ games every week, and we want only want to grow. 

In our newsroom, sports isn’t just about reading the highlights. We are looking for a leader who will grow a long tradition of sports coverage on television and online. You’ll need to demonstrate that you can generate exclusive content before, during and after the game, owning the sports story on-air and online. You’ll embrace our Digital First philosophy: break news on the web, push it on social, and add texture on television. Our Sports Director helps manage a team of talented sports journalists, maintains the sports daybook, and coverage schedule. In the newsroom, you’ll organize and teach. Outside, you’ll tell stories and build relationships. 

As a newsroom, we believe in big, showcased coverage, and so should you. You’ll work with award-winning newscast producers tohelp enhance your story-telling. When the story calls for it, we pack our bags. Just this year, our crews traveled to Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, and New York City for extended coverage. The right candidate knows life on the road is hard work; you’ll be expected to own the coverage on digital, and in news and sports. 

This position offers the opportunity for tremendous growth at a top station, and a great company. If you have what it takes, you’ll be working with industry veterans with valuable market experience. Tallahassee is a vibrant city, and some of the most desirablebeaches are just about an hour away. Here, you’ll travel up and down hilly canopy roads, lined with Live Oaks and Spanish moss. Tallahassee is a haven for cyclists, with numerous bike trails nearby.

• 3+ Years’ experience as a television sports reporter
• Demonstrated track record of balancing television performance with digital strategy.
• Working knowledge of regional sports teams, players and coaches
• Desire to collaborate with newsroom staff to grow coverage.
• Excellent people skills, organization, writing and storytelling are a must. 
• Ideal candidates will have a degree in Communications or Broadcast Journalism
